Heritage Days in Lucan
going all day Saturday
LUCAN - Lucan's first Heritage Festival will kick
off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 12 and continue un-
til midnight.
One of the organizers Mike Anderson reported ac-
tivities will begin at 8 a.m. with a farmer's market
and continental breakfast in the parking lot of Wraith
Family Hardware. This will be followed at noon by a
heritage luncheon.
Participants in the heritage parade are asked to as-
semble at the 4th Concession North at 11 a.m. The
parade will get underway an hour later.
"As part of Heritage Day celebrations the parade is
being organized in order to promote and publicize all
types of heritage within and around our community.
We are looking for any group whose support has
made us what we are today," said Janice Bullock.
"Don't think the heritage of Lucan is strictly a cul-
tural event. Lucan is made up of many things includ-
ing but not limited to business, both new and old,
sports, service clubs and youth activities."
"Come out and show off your support for Lucan's
past, present and future. If you want to participate in
the parade or need further information please call me
at 227-4441 during business hours."
At 1 p.m. the static displays of various cultures
will open at the Lucan Community Centre. An hour
later there will be an auction sale of new and used
items of all kinds.
A troupe from the Huron Country Playhouse at
Grand Bend will be in attendance at 4 p.m. to present
live theatre Ilvith a performance Of "The Red Rose";
well suited for children. With favorable weather con-
ditions this will be held in the arena parking lot.
At 6 p.m., six hours of down home country music
will get underway featuring Ross McFaIIs of Central-
ia, the Vander Hydes and Friends of Elderton. Every
hour during this time, a number of area church choirs
will perform.
Included in the cultural displays will be an entry
from the Indian Museum in London and a group from
the Sudan.
There will be activities for the children all after-
noon. These include a quiet corner in the Targe hall of
the arena where youngsters can color pictures drawn
by local artists. Outside will be a number of games
for the youngsters including tossing balls into milk
cans.
To take care of the appetites of afternoon and eve-
ning visitors there will be beef on a bun and corn on
the cob for sale. Wagon tours will he available in the
morning to tour of the village.
"We have many activities planned, but there could
be a couple of additional surprises. We have had tre-
mendous response to the festival and our museum.
Response to the parade has been great with more than
20 floats confirmed," said Mike Anderson.
The museum located in the former Ford building,
adjacent to Wraith Family Hardware will be open all
day Saturday for the festival.
