Mite girls champions
The Credlton mite girls were the 'A' champions at their playoffs in Hensall on the week-
end. The Crediton team rallied in their last bat to defeat Fullarton, Mitchell and Zurich to
take home the trophy. Shown above, asst. coach Sue Muller, Angie Dearing, Maegan Kip-
fer, Katelyn Lachance, Stacey Bartlett, Kristen Steeper, Melody Mungar and coach Deb
Lord. Front / to r, Lindsay Muller, Jenna Becker, Meghan O'Rourke, Annette Grotentraast,
Andrea Glavin, Amber Lord and Danielle Pertschy. Missing: Kellye Cruikshank.
Crediton mites win 'A' trophy
HENSALL - Getting out of bed before 7 a.m. on a
Saturday morning to begin their playoffs was certainly
worth the hardship for the Crediton Mite Girls Softball
team. They were awarded the "A" championship after
three action -packed games in Hensall on the weekend.
Crediton 12 -Fullarton 11
Playing against an equally competitive team from
Fullarton at 8 a.m., saw the Crediton Blue Jays come
from a 11-7 deficit in the fourth inning to take the win
12-I I.
Amber Lord came up with the perfectly timed hit to
send. Lindsay Muller home from third and take the win
for Crediton.
The girls never quit throughout the whole game and
came up with several key base hits. Katelyn Lachance,
Angie Dearing, Lord, Andrea Glavin, Stacey Bartlett
and Maegan Kipfer helped earn the win with base hits
for their team.
Strong pitching from Muller, Lord and a two inning
performance by Glavin with five strikeouts helped
holi the oppone"rtts`uiH 1 runs. c `. -
Crediton 16 - Mitchell 15
The second game of the tourney saw Crediton come
up against a very strong hitting team from Mitchell.
Again having the home team advantage, the local
squad came from a 9 -3 deficit to tie the game in the
third inning. Meghan O'Rourke being the first batter
in the bottom of the fourth inning ended the game with
a spectacular home run to right field which sent the
Blue Jays to the "A" championship. Strong pitching
from Annette Grotentraast who stayed on the rubber
for all four innings helped lead her team to the victory
with four strikeouts.
Glavin again was a key player for this win with two
home runs and one being a grand slam. Singles came
from the bats of Muller, Lord, Grotentraast, O'Rourke
and Bartlett.
Crediton 16 - Zurich 14
A coach's delight happened on the field during the
girls "A" championship. Super plays, catches, pitching
and hits were displayed by both Crediton and Zurich
players to all their parents and families.
The Crediton girls who never allowed themselves to
quit all weekend, rallied back after a 7-4 deficit to tie
the game the fourth inning and again score thewin-
fling run in the fifth to succeed as the mite champions.
M the bottom of the fifth inning, two out and An-
nette Grotentraast on third, Danielle Pertschy hit a fly
hall to left field to send the go-ahead run across home
plate and win the game for Crediton.
A team effort which was displayed all weekend was
again in full motion as key catches by Muller, Lord
and Grotentraast helped keep their opponents from
scoring. Strong fielding by the whole Crediton squad
added •to their success and every single Crediton
player reached first base during the game.
Andrea Glavin notched one strikeout for her team in
the first inning and Annette Grotentraast pitched su-
perbly the next four innings, striking out eight Zurich
players. It was a real pitcher's dual as Zurich's pitch-
ers notched five strikeouts and had some great plays at
home plate.
Key hits by Katelyn Lachance, Lord, Angie Dear-
ing, Pertschy, Glavin, Grotentraast, Jenna Becker, Me-
ghan O'Rourke and Stacey Bartlett helped the win.
Reaching Kase on balls were Muller, Kristen Steeper,
Melody Mungar and Maegan Kipfer.
Crediton coaches are Deb Lord and Sue Muller.
Exeter emerges as `B' champs
HENSALL - The Exeter Mite
girls softball team finished their
1995 season emerging as 'B'
champions in an exciting three
game tournament hosted by Hen-
sall on the weekend.
Exeter 17 - Mitchell 19
The tournament began at 7:00
p.m. Friday evening after a 30 min-
ute rain delay. Exeter's Mitchell
opponents came out on top in a
close 19-17 game. A grand slam
home run by Exeter's April Knip in
the second inning and a strong ef-
fort by all of the Exeter team failed
to catch the hard-hitting Mitchell
girls before the time limit ran out.
Exeter - Fullarton
Saturday's game at 2:00 p.m.
against Fullarton proved to be a
different story. Exeter's hats were
hot with home runs scored by Jen-
nifer Baker and Karly Pinder.
Strong hitting by Amy Taylor,
Sherri Skinner and April Knip
combined with aggressive base
running resulted in a convincing
win advancing Exeter to the 'B' fi-
nal.
Exeter 22-Hensall 21
Exeter met the Hensall girls in
the '13' final on Sunday at 11:00
a.m. Both teams were hot as the
lead changed back and forth
throughout the five inning, no time
limit game.
The excitement continued to
build as both teams were hitting the
hall well and completing strong de-
fensive plays. The final outcome
was decided in the last inning. Ex-
eter was able to shut down the hard
hitting Hensall team in the top of
the fifth preventing any additional
runs to the 21-20 lead held by Hen-
sall.
Exeter came to bat in the bottom
of the fifth with Mcgan Skinner.
An excellent catch by the Hensall
team prevented Skinner from
reaching first on a fly hall. Jennifer
Baker was the second hatter and
succeeded in reaching first on a
well hit ground ball. Two more
pitches to Sherri Skinner advanced
Baker to third on stolen bases. On
the third pitch, Baker stole home to
tic the game.
The winning run then reached
first hast as Skinner connected
with the hall. Two pitches to Exet-
er's Brittany Foster advanced Skin-
ner to third. Foster reached first af-
ter being hit by a pitch. Jackie
Marshall was Exeter's last hatter
taking a patient stance waiting for a
good pitch. Aggressive base run-
ning allowed Skinner to steal home
and score the winning run on a
missed pitch to Marshall. Every
girl on the Exeter team scored a run
in the final game to contribute to
the 22-21 final score.
The Exeter Mite girls earned
their 'B' championship by playing
solid baseball all season.
The Hensall mite girls and the
other local mite girls also had a
strong and competitive season.
Every girl on every team is a cham-
pion.
Members of the Exeter mite girls
softball 'B' champions arc: Megan
Skinner, Sherri Skinner, Karly
Pinder, Amy Taylor, Jaci Marshall,
Nicole Evans, Brittany Foster, Ja-
nelle Dykstra, Lindsey Rundle, Jen-
nifer Baker, Miranda Grenier, Da-
nielle Long, April Knip, Jessica
Bray. Coaches arc Joan McFalls
and Bill Baker.
