Cold cream was invented thousands of years ago by
the Greeks. It contained olive oil, beeswax, water
and rose petals. The evaporation of the water from
the skin results in a cooling effect, hence the name
"cold cream". Even with the variety of creams available today, the for-
mula hasn't changed too much.
This is a good time of year to remind you that if you get stung by a
wasp, apply ice to the area right away and apply a paste made of a
meat tenderizer (like "Ac'cent). It seems to break down the protein in
the venom and results in less pain and swelling.
Contact dermatitis is a skin rash sometimes caused by some flowering
plants. these include chrysanthemums, tulips, begonias, spider ferns,
philodendron, and a few others.
About 10% of people are left-handed. There seems to be a correlation
between left-handedness and low birth weight. Left-handed people gen-
erally had a lower birth weight than the right-handed people.
It's kind of nice to deal with people you know and who know you. That's
our goal at Huron Apothecary: to get to know you better.
