Exeter Imperials
tie Moorefield
MOOREFIELD - Catcher Chris Kennedy stroked three hits in four
trips and scored a run as the Exeter Imperials held on for a six all tie
with Moorefield in Ontario Men's Fastball League action on Thurs-
day in Moorefield. Jon Passmore also doubled and drove in two runs
with Steve Cook, Sean McCann, Chris McDonald, Ben Armstrong
and Kenn Hines adding singles. Jeff Mayer, called up from the Ban-
tams for the shorthanded juniors, played a strong game and contrib-
uted a single and triple in three trips to the plate. The Imperials had
just returned from the Tara Tournament where they lost two close
decisions to Toronto and Tara Juniors by scores of 5-3 and 4-I re-
spectively.
The Imperials wrapped up their regular season with a game
against Atwood last night. Results were not available at press time.
A playoff meeting is being held tonight with playoffs likely to start
later this week. Pitcher Steve Cook just returned from the Inter-
national Softball Congress North America Championships held last
weekend in Frankenmuth Michigan where he participated with the
Atwood Midgets. They finished a very respectable 5th out of 21
teams with a record of three wins and two losses.

tense game on Sunday.

Joe Martens opened the scoring

cross from George McEwan after
he aggressively headed the ball past
the charging keeper.
The Olympics struck hack in the
second half and netted the ball on a

tennials welcomed hack Charlie
wise and Ruby Vcldhuizen who
had been out with injuries. The

Club secretary, Connie Finlayson

tracting more spectators. They are
currently holding the event at their
club located in an isolated area out-
side of Huron Park. Councilors said
they would need a percentage of
revenue from their food booth as
well as a rental fee that the club
couldn't afford.
"There is a lack of spectators be-
cause nobody knows about us,"
said Finlayson. "Mitchell has their
event right in town and they get
lots of spectators," she added.
'- ' 'Finlayson said the sport is not as
expensive as people may think. The
price of a quarter horse is ap-
proximately $2,500 and items such
as saddles and bits last a very long
time.
"It's an addicting sport. Every-
body loves horses," she said. "Once
you get on a horse and go for that
first ride you always want a second
and third."
