Thames Road and Elimville Crediton women host birthday
plan picnic at Morrison Dam party for residents of Blue Water
The picnic is set for
next Sunday.

THAMES ROAD - Rev. Jim All-
sop was in charge of the joint
church service at Elimville on Sun-
day morning.
The responsive reading was taken
from Psalm 119.
The choir sang "Jesus and Me"
accompanied by pianist Marjorie
Johns.
The children's hymn "Holy Spirit
Hear Us" was sung and Rev. All-
sop told the children a story.
The scripture lesson from the Old
Testament Daniel 3:16-28 and from
the New Testament James 1:22-25
was read by Bruce Delbridge.
Rev. Allsop read from the Gospel
of Mark 3:1-6.
The title of his sermon was "Be-
ing by Doing".
The closing hymn was "We have
this ministry".
Coming events
A joint Sunday service and pic-
nic is planned at Morrison Dam on
July 30 at 10 a.m. Bring your :awn
chair, cutlery, cups, plates, table
cloth and picnic basket. In case of
rain it will be held at Thames Road
Church.
Vacation Bible School will be
held at Thames Road Church on
August 21-26 from 6:30 to 8:30
p.m. The cost is a loonie per night
per child. Organizers need paper
towel tubes for the craft sessions.

provide some.
On September 13, U.C.W. will
hold their Fall Regional at Central-
ia United Church. Registration is at
6:45, coffee at 7:00 p.m. followed
by the business meeting at 7:30
p.m.
Personals
Murray and Beatrice Dawson
hosted a neighbor's going away
party on Friday evening for Bev
and Lorraine Alexander who have
moved to their new home in Exet-
er. They were presented with flotal
arrangements.
Quite a number of people attend-
ed a party on Saturday evening at
the home of Lorne and Pat Ballan-
tyne for their daughter Wendy and
husband -to -be Ron Earle.
Friends of Lorne and Pat Ballan-
tyne gathered at the home of Mur-
ray and Beatrice Dawson on Sun-
day evening for a potluck supper.
A presentation of lawn furniture
was made to Ron and Wendy.
The Gardiner family held their
30th annual picnic at K -W. Com-
munity Centre on Sunday. Each
family brought a cake decorated
with their descendent's names on
it. After a potluck lunch and an
hour of swimming, they enjoyed a
lineup of sports.
ZURICH - The Crediton UCW
visited Blue Water Rest Home on
Tuesday evening to host a birthday
party for residents Edna Johnston,
Theodore (Ted) Steinbach, Hilda
Rader and Alice Thiel who cele-
brate their birthdays during the
month of July. Irene Haugh was
chairperson for the evening's pro-
gram with Joyce Preszcator on pia-
no and Ellen Graham on violin.
Rev. Bob Graham sang several
hymns accompanied on the piano
by his wife Ellen. Linda Nakamura
of Goderich, daughter of Irene, en-
tertained on her piano accordion
and had the residents sing along to
"My Wild Irish Rose," "I'm Look-
ing over a Four Leaf Clover" and
"Good Night Ladies," just to name
a few. Mary Kenney, president of
the group assisted Joyce, Irene, Do-
reen Lightfoot, Sandy Martin and
Donna Klopp, Auxiliary president,
serve sandwiches and tarts. Resi-
dent Vera Thiel thanked the group
for coming and rescheduling the
evening's activities.
It was "Lemonade in the Shade"
Wednesday afternoon in the court
yard as the residents gathered under
the awning and umbrella table to
enjoy the summer weather. Pastor
Phil Bender, Zurich Mennonite
Church conducted Thursday after-
noon Chapel Service. Fr. Matthias
Wronski, St. Boniface Church, Zu-
rich celebrated Mass.

Adeline Denomy, Pearl Miller, Cla-

STEPHEN TOWNSHIP - A
deer was struck on Sideraod 15-
16 west of Concession 8-9 Sun-
day at 11:10 a.m., causing mod-
erate damage to a car.
Ruby Fulcher boarded the new mo-
bile wheelchair bus under the guid-
ance of Glen Thiel, driver for a trip
to St. Christopher's Beach in Gode-
rich. Cathy Shantz, Adjuvant and
volunteers Marilyn Fenwick and
Angelika Metzger assisted the resi-
dents during the 5 1/2 hour outing.
Saturday it was off to the Zurich
Fair for Rose Merner, Harold
(Tiny) Thiel, Vera Thiel, Henricus
(Harry) Maas, Orville Witmer, Cla-
ra Hamilton, Adeline Denomy, Nel-
son Howe, Bernice Kennedy, Kurt
Gebel and Edna Johnston as they
took part in the parade in the com-
fort of the air conditioned new mo-
bile wheelchair bus. Josef Risi, Ad-
ministrator was the driver for the
outing and he decorated the bus.
After the parade, for those unable
to attend the festivities, the Dash-
wood/Seaforth Band with Harry
Hoffman and Stanley Haist (just to
name a few), played for the resi-
dents in the parking lot of the
Home to some pavement stomping
music.
Hilda Rader is busy counting her
cards and looking over her guest
book with happy memories of her
party on July 16. Hilda is very
pleased with the turnout of over 80
people at her 90th birthday celebra-
tion.
Welcome home to Theodore
(Ted) Steinbach who was at South
Huron Hospital. He turned 93 on
July 17.
Many community residents do-
nate produce from their garden for
use at the Home. They've donated
rhubarb, strawberries, turnips, let-
tuce, etc. The Home is grateful for
the fresh produce, and it helps de-
fray costs to the Home.
On July 25 the residents plan to
make homemade ice cream, and a
couple bus trips into the country are
planned. The residents look for-
ward to the staff's yard/bake sale
on August 12 . All proceeds will go
toward the new wheelchair bus.

Harrison family reunion
The 60th Anniversary of the
Harrison Family Picnic was held at
Huron Centennial School with 68
in attendance.
A lovely warm sunny day found
everyone greeting reminiscing and
viewing the photo albums as they
caught up on the news. Everyone
enjoyed the game arranged by
Brenda and Brian Steele, especial-
ly ,the "generations" tug of war.
The three branches of the family
then had their photos taken in front
of the school.
President Bryan Hodgen wel-
comed everyone and introduced
the anniversary committee: Eliza-
beth Foster, Le Roy Harrison,

Hodgen and thanked them for all
their preparatory work. We ob-
served one minute silence for
those deceased, ill and unable to
attend. Pete Harrison, Harry Proc-
tor and Albert Taylor cut the Anni-
versary cake made and served by
Marion Harrison.
Several door prizes were pre-
sented and the business meeting
commenced with the reading of
the minutes, and the financial re-
port by secretary Linda Hodgert.
Bryan then gave a brief historic re-
view of interesting events and
facts from past picnics. Lois Hod-
gert reported from the reunion
committee that copies of the fami-
ly history update were for sale and
orders were being taken from fam-
ily update of history books and
family photos.
The 1996 executive are: Presi-
dent: Murray Siemon; Secretary/
Treasurer: Jean Siemon; Director:
Olive Siemon; Sports: Bryan and
Linda Hodgert.
