EXETER - Lee Richards from
Lucan shot a hole -in -one on a par
three at Ironwood Golf Club on
Wednesday.
Richards used a nine iron to hit
the ball 131 yards down the green
on the number four hole during a
fundraising golf tournament for the
Molting Hawks old-timers hockey
club. "It's the first hole -in -one I
ever had," he said.
Richards was playing in a 36
team three man scramble with golf-
ing buddies Bill Bannerman and
Arden Shantz. All three play for
Lucan in the old timers league.
"I was surprised when I saw it go
in," said Richards who had a clear
view of the ball the whole time.
Jim Guenther from Huron Motor
Products, the official sponsor of
the tournament said if Richards'
shot would have been on the sev-
enth hole he would have won a
1995 Cavalier. Instead he took
home a brand new set of golf
clubs."I don't care about the car,
I'm just glad I got the hole -in -one,"
Richards said. Gib Dow Jr., owner
of Ironwood, said he only gets a
few hole -in -one shots a year but
Richards' shot was the fourth one
this season.
"Everybody is golfing better,"
said Dow trying to explain the phe-
nomenon. "The golfers coming out
lately have been good players," he
