Imperpaps e Strafford
EXETER - Two runs in the third
inning proved to be the difference
as Exeter Imperials defeated Strat-
ford 2 to 0 in Ontario Junior Men's
Fastball League action, Thursday
night at South Huron Recreation
Centre. The game was then forfeit-
ed at the end of the fifth inning
when Stratford were unable to field
nine players after they received two
ejections.
With one out in the third inning,
second baseman Chris McDonald
singled and went to third on a sacri-
fice by Chris Kennedy. He then
scored on an error by the centre
fielder on Greg Dalrymple's fly
ball. Dalrymple then scored on a
Steve Farquhar single and another
error by the Stratford centre fielder,
to complete Exeter's scoring.
Two runs were all that were re-
quired as starting pitcher Steve
Cook threw a no-hitter through five
innings. He allowed six haserun-
ners on four walks, a fielder's
choice and an error, while striking
out 10.
The win improved Exeter's
record to five wins and eight losses
with their next scheduled league ac-
tion Thursday night at the Rec Cen-
tre when they host Wellesley.
An exhibition game Sunday after-
noon against Atwood was rained
out in the fourth inning.

Fury beat Embro
tie Tillsonburg
EXETER - The Exeter Fury were undefeated in two games last
week recording a win and a tie in regular league play.
The Fury gained their first road win of the season Thursday with a
6-1 victory in Embro. Jeff Lingard started the scoring with a shot to
the corner of the net. Minutes later Lingard set up Dave Maguire for
hist first goal of the year as he beat the goalie from close range.
Maguire played a strong game for the Fury creating many rushes
up field while still playing a defensive position. Before the half was
out Pete McAllister lifted a long shot from a tough angle that found
the back of the net to put the Fury up by three.
In the second half, Tom Westerveld scored on an individual effort
eluding a defender and beating the goalie on a low drive. Lingard
and McAllister both notched their second of the game to finish the
scoring when Lingard headed in a corner kick taken by Josh Ver-
meulen and McAllister pushed the ball past the charging keeper into
the net.
Newcomer Adam Jean played a strong game as sweeper in his first
game with the Fury.
On Sunday, the Fury tied the first place Tillsonburg team 2-2 at
home in the rain.
Exeter scored early and !Ad several other good scoring chances
but failed to capitalize on their opportunities. Dan Martens gave the
Fury a 1-0 lead as he finished off a play created by Dave Boersma.
The visitors tied the game at one before the half was over and then
took the lead on a free kick that curled away from goalie Randy
MacDonald and found its way into the net. Moments later Exeter
was awarded a penalty shot and Lingard equalled the score at two to
cap the game.
Fury coach Jason McFalls felt that his team should have won the
Tillsonburg game.
"If we would have scored on just one of our chances early in the
game and taken a two goal lead it would have been a different
game," said McFalls. Typically, the Fury seem to play better with a
lead hut couldn't manage to get up by more than one throughout the
game.
The Fury will be away playing St Thomas in their next league
game on July 6.

Exeter Hawks add new staff
EXETER - The Exeter Hawks
junior hockey club have included
two new additions to their coaching
staff.
Club executives confirmed Sun-
day night that Jeff Dalrymple and
Jon Passmorc,
both from Exet-
er will be join-
ing the Hawks
behind the
bench for the
upcoming sea-
son. Dalrymple
will team up
with Barry
Baynham as an
assistant coach,
and Passmore
will be assisting
head trainer
Wayne Dickins.
Dave Reving-
ton, head coach
and general
manager for the
Hawks said club executives were
not seeking to fill any gaps in the
coaching staff by taking the two on,
emphasizing that both Dalrymple
and Passmore approached the club
and were not recruited.
"We weren't looking to replace
anyone specifically," said Reving-
ton. "They are both from town and
have been involved with hockey in
Exeter for a long time."
Coincidently, both Dalrymple
and Passmore
were involved
with the Lucan
Irish junior hock-
ey club Last sea-
son, but they ter-
minated their
positions before
joining the
Hawks.
"I wasn't going
to go back to Lu -
can next season,
it was too much
driving because
I'm going to
school in Sar-
nia," said Pass-
more who ex-
pressed interest
in joining the Hawks soon after he
left Lucan. "I accepted the position
right away, I didn't even have to
think about it," said Passmore
about the offer.
Dalrymple co -coached the Irish
Jeff Dal
rympie
last season with his friend Scott Bo-
gart. Together, Bogart and Dal-
rymple brought the Irish out of an
eleven game losing streak to finish
the season with the best come -
from -behind record in the league.
With a baby
along the way
Dalrymple re-
signed his posi-
tion with the
Irish to spend
more time at
home with his
family; how-
ever he didn't
want to give up
coaching alto-
gether. He sub-
mitted a resume
to the Hawk ex-
ecutives who
showed interest
in taking him
on right away.
Dalrymple
was still interested in continuing
his coaching career while keeping
himself closer to home, so joining
the Exeter Hawks seemed like a
reasonable move.
"There is a lot of local talent
coming up through minor hockey
right now and things are looking
good for the Hawks," said Dal-
rymple. "They have some really
good ideas for fundraising and
they're more focussed on having
the team fi-
nancially sound in
the long run," he
said.
Even though
Dalrymple and
Passmorc will be
leaving friends
behind in Lucan
they don't expect
that to tame down
the rivalry be-
tween these two
teams.
"I think the ri-
valry will be just
as big. Scott Bo-
gart is a great
coach and he's
definitely going to
have a good team next year," Dal-
rymple said. "Scott likes to win as
much as I do. It gets pretty intense
when you step on the ice, I think it
will be heated," he said.

Ice rates set
LUCAN - The board of the Lu -
can Community Memorial Cen-
tre has approved the rates to be
charged for ice rentals during the
1995-96 season.
Most of the rates are up about
five percent from last year. They
are somewhat lower than those
reported from Ilderton, St. Mar-
ys, Huron Park and Exeter.
The minor hockey and figure
skating groups will pay $67.41
per hour up from $64.20 Local
adults will be charged $78.11 per
hour, an increase from $74.90
and non -locals will pay $85.60
an hour, up from $82.39 per
hour. Non -prime ice time will be
available at $58.87 an hour, that's
up from $57.78. All figures in-
clude the Goods and Services
Tax.
The rates for public skating for
the upcoming season will remain'
unchanged. Season passes are
$40 for one child; $50 for one
student; $75 for three children;
$85 for four children and $95 for
more than four children in one
family.
Single admittance will be $1.10
for those skaters under 14 years
of age and $1.70 for those over
the age of 14.
In a recent report of communi-
ty centre activities Reg Crawford
told councillors that the arena is
exploring the possibility of hav-
ing some volunteers assist in
cleaning of the large hall in order
to reduce the deficit from that
arca of operations.
Operation of the outside booth
has been privatized on a 75-25
percent split. Reeve Tom
McLaughlin would like to see
.McLaughlin
types of arrangements ten-
dered out and not appointed.
*Councillor Rosemary Gahling-
er-Beaune feels that the arena fo-
cuses too much on the ice and not
on other areas. She says the hall
should be advertised more to en-
courage its use.
The interior of the arena has
been repainted and new drapes
have been ordered for the small
hall. After checking three quotes,
the board will purchase the new
drapes from Ruth Strapp at a cost
of $3.352.44, plus taxes.
Negotiations have been com-
pleted to provide a third soccer
field, adjacent to the community
centre grounds. The board has
signed an agreement to lease the
needed property from Mike and
Paul Murphy. The only charge
will be an annual fee of $250 to
cover property taxes.
The property and promotions
committee has presented its pro-
posers for major projects for the
next five years. They include in
no particular order a new Zambo-
ni type ice scraper, a pavilion be-
tween the ball diamonds, asphalt
paving in front of the Lions shed,
neY' bleachers at the sports fields,
a new pool fence. a gondola in the
arena, concrete curbs in front of
the centre and playground equip-
ment.
