cornerstone of 100 years

DASHWOOD - The highlight of Sunday's IOOth an-
niversary celebration at Dashwood United Church was
the opening of a cornerstone which was laid on June
16, 1895.
On that date, the new church building to house the
Evangelical Association congregation was officially
opened by the Rev. J.J. Esher, Senior Bishop of the
Evangelical Association from Cleveland, Ohio. Assist-
ing Bishop Esher was presiding elder Rev. D. Krek
and E. Eby, the preacher in charge.
Mementoes found Sunday in the 100 year-old tin
hox from the cornerstone were copies of the Evangeli-
cal Messenger May 22, 1895, the Sunday School Mes-
senger June 16, 1895 and a German language religious
publication from May 28, 1895.
Also included were an 1866 Bible, a small 1881
song book and another song book printed in 1877 be-
longing to E. Eby.
One paper found in the hox described the activities
of that day in 1895 as follows:
This cornerstone was laid on June 16, 1895 by the
Rev. J.J. Esher, Senior Bishop of the Evangelical As-
sociation with presiding elder Rev. D. Krek and E.
Eby, the preacher in charge.
The 1895 church trustees are Joseph Snell, Henry
Kraft and Jacob Kellermann and the building commit-
tee consisted of John Hall, Frederick Baker, George
Kellerrnann, Joseph Snell and Philip Beaver.
Members of the Quarterly Conference were Fred
Scharffe, A. Shettler, Jacoh Weber, Joseph Snell, Karl
Hahn, Louis Eckstein, August Schroeder, Fred Ehlers,
Jacoh Keller -mann, John Goetz, William Ehlers, Lo-
renz Weigand and John Rode.
In 1895, the Dashwood Evangelical Association had
a membership of 180.
