Ratz reunion
SHIPKA - The 1995 annual Ratz
picnic was held June 11 at Shipka
Community Centre. Over 30 rela-
tives attended from Byron, Exeter,
Lake Field, Thedford, Parkhill and
Shipka area.
A sports program was enjoyed
including ladies kick the slipper,
children and adult races, wheelbar-
row and sack races, and team re-
lays. Guessing the numbers of can-
dies in a jar was won by Caroline
Thompson.
1996 slate of officers elected
were: President, Harvey Ratz, sec-
retary, Eleanor Sharpe, sports
committee, Mary Margaret
Thompson and Nancy Jane Finch.
1996 picnic to be held at Shipka
the second Sunday in June.
United Church
Greenway United Church held a
most successful ham and strawber-
ry supper, Saturday night, June 17.
Doreen Finkbeiner and Madeline
Sweitzer were-ont tf a seniors bus
trip last Wednesday June 14, to the
Geritol Follies in Hamilton.
Cliff and Velma Russell, attend-
ed the Webb reunion (on Velma's
side of the family) held Saturday
June 17 at St. Catharines.
A number of people from here
attended Decoration Day at Grand
Bend Cemetery last Sunday June
18.

EXETER - Pauline Simmons
welcomed the ladies of the Gor-
don Auxiliary, Mrs. Carolyn Re-
gier, and Mrs. Ruth Laing. Press
secretary of the Huron -Stratford
Presbyterial, to the PCW meet-
ing. '
A humorous skit between a
prayer and his Creator was per-
formed by Mrs. Lillian McLel-
lan and Mrs. Pauline Simmons.
Ruth Laing, the guest speaker,
related incites into the lives of
several of the authors of the
songs found in the hymn book.
The choir members of the Gor-
don Auxiliary sang the Lord's
Prayer and For God So Loved
the World.
Mrs. Margaret Strang, the
president conducted the busi-
ness. Plans were finalized for the
Huron -Stratford Presbyterial
meeting and dinner on June 19 at
Caven. Ladies were reminded of
and asked for donations for the
pancake supper on June 22. A
bake sale will be held at the
PUC location downtown on the
first day of the sidewalk sale.
The winning team of the "Loo-
ney Challenge' won by one coin.
Lunch was serviced by Jean
Easton and Donna Webster.

Congratulations to Mary Ellen
Webster. She graduated from Fan-
shawe College with a Business Ac-
countant Course. Mary Ellen is
now seeking employment.
The Magnolia Manor Bed and
Breakfast has been very busy this
past week with many functions.
The strawberry social on Sunday.
Tuesday afternoon Carol will be
hosting a bus tour of approximately
45 people from Essex and in the
evening the ladies of the Bruefield
Church will be there for a tour.
An ?pen house will he held on
Wednesday June 21 from 2-9. Eve-
ryone welcome.
Get your pork barbecue tickets
for the Varna Church to be held at,
the Stanley Complex June 21.

HENSALL - Queensway Baking
Club'celebrated second place wins
on the bran muffins and banana
bread they entered in the Hensall
Fair. They decided to donate their
winnings to the Alzheimers Re-
search as that is the Focus for Sen-
iors month.
Rev. Kevin Rutledge of Exeter
Baptist Church led the Tuesday
worship service, doing double duty
by accompanying the hymn sing on
the keyboard.
Retirement home residents
Homer Taylor, Elizabeth Briggs,
Pearl Eyre and Mildred Gingerich
along with staff members Kim
Mostrey and Carol Gascho trav-
elled to Zurich Dining for seniors
to present an entertaining program.
Appreciation to volunteer Phyllis
Dcsjardine who provided the piano
accompaniment. We enjoyed a deli-
cious meal with the diners.
A big thank you to Hensall
School children who under the able
direction of Peter Snell gave a won-
derful program Thursday afternoon.
Hawaii was our focus for Fri-
day's International Day. Evelyn Jo-
sephson, Murray and Sadie Craig
provided artifacts and a video. A
delicious Hawaiian fruit platter was
served for lunch as well.

Rebekah Assembly of Ontario convene
TORONTO - The Rebekah Assembly of Ontario held its annual sessions
at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto last week. The great Concert Hall was
filled with members of all branches of the Order, for Divine Worship, fol-
lowed by the Memorial Service and the reception for Agnes Norris, Presi-
dent of the Rebekah Assembly of Ontario. Helen Coates and Jean Hod-
gen, Past Noble Grands of Pride of Huron Rebekah Lodge represented
Exeter. Lois McFalls, Exeter had the honor of the office of Outside Guar-
dian of the Assembly. On Monday evening, Rebekahs of the President's
District #27, conferred the Rebekah Degree on Sharon Wurm, Exeter and
Susan Jeffery, Sarnia.Hodgett was among 30 District Deputy Presidents
introduced and seated on the -platform to witness the Degree. Gerald
McFalls, Percy and Jean Noels, Bruce Delbridge and Steve Corbett all of
Exeter Lodges and John and Marjorie Broadfoot of Brucefield, were in
Toronto attending meetings of the Grand Lodge of Ontario and its various
branches. Bruce Delbridge is Equipment Officer of the Department Coun-
cil of Ontario.
