The tenants of BWRH Apartments joined the residents to listen to 70 students of Grade five and six from Grey Central Public School, Ethel sing and perform for the residents. Gladys Gingerich was Chairperson for the afternoon. Marg Whitmore was pianist, Jill Garvin and Cheryl Armstrong played piano solos, Stacey Bole and Whitmore tap danced to tapes, Leona McBride played the trumpet and Audrey Haberer played the pia- no. Balloons and kites added an additional party touch. Peter Baldwin, St. George's Anglican Church, Goderich con- ducted Thursday afternoon Chanel Service. Fr. Matthias Wronski, St. Boniface Church, Zurich celebrated Mass. Cathy Shantz, Adjuvant served Wednesday afternoon tea in the auditorium to residents and their families. A new sound was heard in the au- ditorium Monday morning for the sing -a -long with Angelika Metzger, South Huron Co -Operative Volun- teer Student ad Rose Merner, resi- dent pianist. These women filled in for the Adjuvant who was on vaca- tion and kept the residents in good voice. Best wishes to Muriel Carson • who is visiting Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich. A thank you to Alice Masse and the folk at General Coach, Hensall for the donation of foam pieces and scrap materials. The Exeter Boy co the Exeter Ventures and the Exeter Minor Baseball association received $500 each and the Exeter Elites Baton Twirling Club received $800. Whalen holds annual picnic The community en- joyed the picnic Satur- day evening. Muriel Lewis GRANTON - The Whalen Com- munity held their annual barbecue at the hall on Saturday evening. The annual Bryan picnic was held at the park on Sunday. Bruce Arnold of Windsor chaired the business and Margaret Bryan was the secretary with Carolyn and Becky Bryan in charge of sports. The Anglican parish bible study group met at the rectory in Kirkton on Wednesday, June 7. At the St. Thomas' Anglican church on Sunday, June 11 the Rev. Stanley Jay of Mitchell celebrated the Holy Eucharist in the absence of Rev. Stephen Emery. His mes- sage was about the enabling power of God which is eternal and is free- dom from the locked doors of life. A closing service of thanksgiving for the life of the church will be held Sunday, June 18 at 4:30 p.m. At the Granton United Church on Sunday, Pastor Normalie Voakes entitled her sermon "What kind of church is this?" on the 70th anni- versary of union. The church is where people can express their faith, worship God and be part of a community of caring. Marilyn Humphrey led in the reading of the psalm. Special music was provided in a solo 'All in an April evening' by Cindy Bilyea. A time of fellowship followed the service. UCW Unit three met at Ruth Cook's place ort Tuesday evening, June 6. The president April Bryan wel- comed everyone and Marguerite Garrett and Margaret Bryan chose `Affirmation' as their program theme. Everyone enjoys receiving words of praise and workers put more effort into their jobs when they are praised by their employ- ers. Everyone repeated the Lord's Prayer and a play about Esau giv- ing up his birthright to Jacob was presented by Marguerite and Mar- garet. The latter also read an article 'Our recipe for bacon' in which a couple reverses roles for six months. Each appreciates the oth- er's lifestyle more after the switch. Volunteers needed for picnic Liz Sangster HENSALL - Due to the illness of Rev. Henry Annen, Sharon Wurm was the grest speaker this past Sunday at Hensall United Church. Sharon's message was "Is God Dead?" The children's story was "Seeds of Life". Doug Klopp was the organist. The ushers were Raye Jacobe and Dave Collins. The greeters were Linda and Dan Crerar. In case of parish emergency, during the illness Rev. Annen, contact Rev. Cheryl Stadelbauer-Sampa (522-0634). The Official Board will meet June 21. The Promotions and Awards Picnic is June 25th, volunteers are needed, call Joanne Rowcliffe (263-5683). The Hensall and Community Drop -In will be June 15 at the Hensall United Church. Call Margaret Cole for reservations (262-2304_. Mary Brintnell welcomed 14 members to the June 5 meeting of the Friendship Circle of Hensall United Church. Mary read a poem "If You Had A Garden?". The roll call was answered with your favourite flower. It was reported a bale of good used clothing had been packed earlier in the day and boxes of ladies and children's clothes had been taken to Sur- vival Through Friendship House in Goderich. The remainder being sent to Mission Services in London. It was decided the September meeting will be changed to September 6. Helen McLean was in charge of the devotional and opened with a poem. The hymn "For the Beauty of the Earth" was sung. Scripture was taken from Psalm 135:1-5. McLean read an interesting story and closed her devotional with prayer, and a reading "Thoughts of Dandelions". Brintnell chose as her topic for the evening "Urban Revival in Vancou- ver's Native Neighbourhood" showing how some of the Mission and Ser- vice offerings are uscd. All enjoyed a contest and refreshments served by Kay Elder and McLean. The Hensall Tinker Tots will having their graduation ceremonies June 15 at Hensall Public School starting at 6:30 p.m. - The sympathy of the community is extended to the family of the late Hugh McEwen. INVITATION TO RESPOND MITO THE MIDDLESEX COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION'S DRAFT STRATEGIC PLAN The Middlesex County Board of Education has prepared a draft Strategic Plan. As part of its validation process, the Board is inviting responses to the draft Plan from interested residents of the County. Copies of the draft Plan are available for. review at all Middlesex County Board of Education schools and at the Education Centre, 1120 Hyde Park Road, Hyde Park, Ontario. During the business, plans were finalized for the UCW general meeting on the 13th, the pork bar- becue on the 21st was discussed and a summer get together was or- ganized for July. Marguerite, Margaret and Ruth served refreshments. Unit five met at Ina Harlton's home in St. Marys on Tuesday af- ternoon, June 6. Florence Bryan opened with a poem 'Best Friends' and the meditation "He shall gather his sheep'. The hymn `Tile summer days have come again' was read. Alma Nicholson read Psalm 23 one verse at a time as Florence read the story of the Lord is my shepherd. She also read 'Take a moment to really see' closing with prayer. Margaret Spence led the business discussion on the pork barbecue. Arrangements were made for the next meeting and Margaret closed with a reading 'When things go wrong.'
