eter Fury's 3-0 win on Sunday.
Fury notch fourth
win on home field
EXETER - The Exeter Fury
kept their perfect home record in-
tact Sunday as they defeated the
Delhi Royals 3-0.
The Fury have managed four
straight wins on their home field
but have failed to gain a point in
three road games.
Sunday's game was a very
physical contest with yellow cards
being given to a couple of Delhi
players•foi fouls against the Exet-
er team. The first half saw only
one goal scored as Tom Wester -
veld picked the corner after find-
ing himself alone at the side of
the net.
The second half had the Fury
defending the one goal lead as
Delhi mounted some pressure but
Exeter's defense turned them
away. Mark Lynn played a strong
game while dealing with the trip-
ping and holding tactics of the
Delhi team. The Fury were able to
relax a bit when Westerveld
headed the ball in for his second
of the game.
Exeter 'clinched the win on a
Jeff Lingard goal as he drilled
his shot into the far corner of the
net after being set up nicely by
Dan Martens. Randy MacDonald
picked up the shutout making
the saves when he had to.
"They were a rough team. A
lot of our guys were knocked
down, tripped and tackled. The
referee only caught some of the
fouls," said coach Jason
McFal Is.
"We didn't play as well as we
can. We didn't pass the ball to
the open man very well but our
defense were able to clear the
ball when we were in trouble,"
he added.
The Fury's next home game is
against Tillsonburg on June 25.

ZURICH - Zurich Town and
Country Youth Bowling Council
(Y.B.C) 15 -year-old Joey Forrester
of St. Joseph, representing the
Bluewater Zone, became Ontario's

by winning the senior division pro-
vincial title at Brampton. Forrester
bowled games of 192, 227 and 176
(a 595 triple) to win his division ti-
tle for Bluewater, in a field of 16
competitors, by finishing with 172
pins over his 141 Zurich Y.B.C.
league average. His closest compet-
itor scored 128 pins -over -average.
Bluewater 5 -Pin Bowlers' Associa-
tion's Tournament Director Howie
Baker from Listowel was Forrest-
er's Coach -Chaperone.
Forrester's natural ability to be
cool under pressure and get the job
done helped his quest for an Onta-
rio YBC championship in his first
year of organized bowling as he
looks forward with anticipation to
next season's Town and Country
YBC senior league.

Pigeons stopped at the starting
gate during Saturday's race
Al DeHaan
EXETER - By mid -week pigeon
racers begin to pay sharper atten-
tion to the weather forecasts.
A predication of fair weather for
the weekend gladdens their hearts
and reinforces their confidence in
the weather forecasters. Should the
prediction be unfavourable, they
will second-guess the forecasters
and recall the many times their pre-
dictions were wrong.
Unfortunately, all the positive
thinking in the world could not pre-
vent rain from falling on Saturday,
June 3. Five members of the Lucan
Homing Pigeon Club had shipped
33 pigeons to St. Jerome, P.Q., a
distance of 655 kms. and 34 birds
to be released at Brockville, Onta-
rio, a distance of 485 kms. Howev-
er, since it was raining all the way
between St. Jerome and Lucan, it
was the first hold -over of the racing
season. The following day, under
much improved weather conditions,
, the pigeons were released at St. Je-
rome at 6:30 a.m. and at 9:30 at
Brockville. Mitch Szczech com-
pletely dominated the St. Jerome
race by taking positions one, two
and three. The Royal Hardy lofts
from Lucan, claimed the four, five
and seven spots. Birds from the T.
Hardy and J. Southern lofts put in
creditable performances.
The Brockville race results were
almost a complete reversal of the
St. Jerome outcome. The Royal
Hardy Lofts captured positions one
and two. Tom Hardy's working
man's lofts placed third and fourth
and Szczech took positions six and
seven. One of Harry Winters' pi-
geons paddled fast and furiously,
only to end up in last place.
We expect a lot of birds to be en-
tered in preparation of the longest
race of the season: the 500 -mile
Frank Hardy Memorial Race from
Grand Mere, Quebec.
