Grandpal's Day
Exeter Public School held their Grandpal Day recently.
Shown above, Sarah Austin shows some work to grand-
mother (lean Austin.
On Tuesday, May 30, the students of Exeter Public invited their
"Grandpals" to come to school for the morning. After a very enjoya-
ble program of music and skits in the gym, the grandpals were invited
to visit their grandchild's or friend's classroom. The following are
some letters which the Grade 3 students in Room 7 wrote about this
day.
Mrs. J. Mills
Grade 3 teacher
Dear Editor:
Yesterday, May 30th, we had Grandpal's
day. We got to show them our classroom,
library and the tulips we planted outside for
V.E. day. Only 3 kids in my class didn't
have a grandpa!, so they shared with
someone else. When we did math, we
timed each other. Bud got more than I
did in one minute. I hope we have another
grandpal's day.
Shannon Baer
On Grandpal's Day I had tons of fun. First, me and my grandpal
filled out a sheet where we told our favourite stuff, like school sub-
jects, gym and singing. My grandma, (my grandpal) said she liked
singing and math. I said I liked reading. I showed her around my room
and she told me that if you were bad when she went to school, you'd
get the strap. She liked the back of the room because it was covered
with sea projects. She really liked my classroom. It was lots of fun!
Meaghan Spence
My grandpal's day was good. My grandma and grandpa didn't' have
a couch and they didn't have good desks in their schools. We do num-
ber facts but they didn't have number facts. When I got 26 number
facts in a minute, they were proud of me. But they had to go home.
But I still had fun.
Derek Kelly
On May 30th, E.P.S. had a grandpal's day and I found it rather inter-
esting when most grandpals came. Our grandpa! or grandpals got to
help us with a list of things to work on. We had 13 things to work on.
It was a very busy morning. Some grandpals left before lunch time,
but still some didn't leave before. We had 30 grandpals come to
grandpal's day. Everyone had a great time on grandpal's day. My 3
grandpals stayed for about one hour.
Matthew Johns
On May 30th we had Grandpal's Day. That is when we invited
Grandparents or older friends and did stuff with them, like play
games, show them the school and other stuff too. My grandpal and I
filled out a sheet that had questions like what was your classroom like
when you were little? And what did you do that I do not do now? Be-
fore we got to see them the Primary choir from Exeter Public School,
Junior and Intermediate choir entertained them with songs and plays.
There were about 32 grandparents in our classroom! I showed my
grandpal the school library and the tulip bulbs that our class planted
for Remembrance Day and V.E. Day to remember people that died in
the war. My grandpal and I had lots of fun! I hope we have Grandpal's
Day again next year.
Diana Lam
We had Grandpal's Day. I think that Grandpal's Day might be for
kids who don't see their grandparents very much. Or it could be be-
cause we do more things with our mother and father at school, but I
think it's because we don't know how much fun we can have with
them. At Grandpal's Day, I showed them my desk and then I got thegu
and my teachers to meet. I read my hook to them and showed them
around. Then I had to take them to Kimberly's classroom, (my older
sister). But first we went and got something to eat and drink. Then we
were at Kimberly's room. I went back to my classroom and that's
what went on with me and my grandparents.
