You can leam how to become a 1/4 mile drag racer "bracket style."
We have a class specifically designated for "street vehicles" and
another for "motorcycles."
Our track manager will assist you in learning the racing
procedures of the Motorplex. An instruction pamphlet, will be
supplied as a reference to racing procedures. If you feel it is
necessary we will supply an instructor for the first few runs. There
will be liming slips" supplied after each run down the 1/4 mile to
show your results- your "reaction time" - various times and speeds
going down the track, and a final time and speed of your 1/4 mile
run. Having fun yet? Well there is more!
After you have made a few time trials and established a "dial in
time" we will enter this in our computerized timing system and now
you can start racing against your friends. The computer
determines who leaves the starting line first. ex: If your car is 2
seconds faster than your friends then you would get the green
Tight 2 second behind him/her. From there on it is all based on
reaction times and consistency. There Is morel You noticed I said
him or her, we have a lot of ladies as competitors. Don't be shyl
If you feel confident in your performance you can come back
on Sunday's and race for big bucks. You may even want to join

Plgeons race
to home lofts
L. De Haan
EXETER - "Oh what fun it is to fly...!" That is the line the pigeons
must have been humming as they recently ratted back from Kingston
and Cobourg to their home lofts in Exeter, Arva, Crediton, Forest,
Kerwood, Lucan, London and Parkhill.
This race was a carbon -copy of the race of the week before, except
that the birds flew even faster, and the tail -wind from the southeast
did not favour any particular region: Jim Southern from Kerwood, the
most southerly -located member of the Lucan Homing Pigeon Club,
clocked the winning bird at 11:07 a.m. Together with 120 other pi-
geons, this bird was liberated at 6:30 earlier that morning at Kingston.
When all the variables had been added into the formula, it turned
out that this pigeon had flown the distance of 441 kms. in four hours
and 47 minutes for an average speed of 1536 meters per minute, or 58
miles per hour! What makes it even more remarkable is the fact that
the winning pigeon was a "yearling."
Since the southern pigeon won not only the general Kingston race
but the special yearling race as well, Southern gets a chunk of cash
and the job of sweeping up the club house.
In this race Mitch Szczech from Lucan took second place. Two
northern flyers also scored well: Jack Brennan from Crediton 3 and 4,
and Al de Haan from Exeter placed fifth. Hardy's Royal Lofts were a
bit slower in this race.
On the same day a second race was flown from Cobourg. In total
117 pigeons were entered in this race. Exactly three hours after they
were released, two of Al de Haan's pigeons dropped onto their loft at
11:15.
These birds averaged 58 miles per hour: good for first and second.
The Royal Hardys were right on the tails of the de Haan pigeons and
took positions three and five. Harry Winters clocked his first pigeon
four minutes after the winning bird and ended up in fourth place.
Jim Whitworth from the Forest area took positions six and seven;
Mitch Szczech was eighth and ninth, and Jim Southern placed twelfth
in this race. Jack Pierson, Chuck Barrett and Mark Ansems also flew
in this race.
Club members remember with fondness and respect one of our
members who recently passed away, a man who has probably meant
more to the sport of racing pigeons than any other, Clarence Hardy.
Exeter Fury lose
EXETER - The Exeter Fury trav-
elled to Ingersoll .Friday to take on
the first -place club in the east divi-
sion. Ingersoll won the game 2-1
with the winning goal occurring in
the dying seconds of the game.
Exeter opened the scoring as Dan
Martens converted on a penalty
shot after Brett Rideout was fouled
inside the box. The Fury main-
tained into the second half as Inger-
soll kept pressing for a goal. The
home team finally solved the Fury
defense by finding the net on a shot
from close range.
The humidity began to take its
toll on Exeter's shorthanded de-
fense squad when Ingersoll's for-
wards increased the pressure in
their attempt to gain the win. The
winning goal came on a crossing
pass which turned out to be the last
play of the game.
The Fury play host to Delhi Sun-
day, June 11 at 4:00.

and skip, Gloria McFalls won the
District "Fours" Playdowns in Sea -
forth on Sunday. They played St.
Marys Ladies beating them 17-8
and 13-8 with St Marys narrowly
taking one game 13-10.
The Ladies team will advance to
the provincial final in Hamilton
June 17 and 18.
The Exeter mens team consisting
of lead, Jason McFalls, 2nd, Roy
Triebner, vice, Shawn McFalls and
