Joan Beierling VARNA - Mirianne Menzies won $500.00 in the early bird draw of the truck elimination draw held May 24. Reeve Jack Coleman drew the lucky ticket. There are still a few tickets left. for the draw to he held September 2. The ticket includes a dance and lunch for two. Contact any rec committee member for a ticket. Youth group The Trends Youth group meet at the Brucefield church on June 1. The topic is to be "Love or Hate". UCW Varna U.C.W. will meet June 1, at'8 p.m. at the church. Anyone wishing to go with the Varna U.C.W. to the Grand Bend Theatre to see "My Fair Lady" on August 30 should call Eleanor McAsh. Swimming lessons The Stanley Township Rec Com- mittee is sponsoring swimming les- sons for children, the weeks of July 17 to 28. A bus will pick up chil- dren in Varna and Brucefield. Cost is $38 per child. Contact Sandy Robinson at 263-5307 to register. Strawberry social Ted and Carol Pakenham will be hosting an "Old Fashioned Straw- berry Social" at the Magnolia Man- or Bed and Breakfast, formerly known as the historic Moffat Es- tate, on Sunday June 18. Homemade strawberry shortcake Appreciation night planned HENSALL - Hensall was the place to be last Saturday, during the elev- enth annual Great Yard Sale. Queensway Nursing Home was extremely busy selling coffee and donuts, yard sale items, herbs and flowers, box plants and barbecued food. Volunteers assisted with the sale. Earlier in the week, Rev. Vernon Dean conducted the weekly church ser- vice. Thursday afternoon residents welcomed Gladys VanEgmond and The Music Makers at their May birthday party. Those celebrating birthdays this month are Laurcnc Wein, Alcida Kats, Luella Hall, Hazel Mason and Dorothy Page. June is Seniors' Month and as an official kick-off, Queensway Nursing Home is hosting a Volunteer Appreciation party on Thursday evening, June 1 at 7:00 p.m. All those who volunteer in any capacity at Queensway is invited to come for entertainment, refreshments and fellowship. If you have ever thought about volunteering at Queensway but you weren't sure how to get involved, this would be a good opportunity to see what Queens- way Nursing and Retirement Home is all about. Upcoming events June 1 at 7 p.m. will be the Volunteer Appreciation party; June 5 at 10 a.m. the Volunteer Auxiliary will meet; on June 6 at 7 p.rn., Lakeview Conserviative Mennonite Singers will perform; and on June 7 at 2 p.m. there will be Mystery CarRides. ME and beverages will be supplied. Other features will be live enter- tainment, White Elephant Table, and you can even try your favourite recipe of strawberry pie or cake in a contest with prizes to be awarded. This is a fund raising event of the Huron Tourism Association. Dona- tions for door prizes or for the white elephant table or fish pond would be greatly appreciated.
