DASHWOOD - There are two
brand new dugouts on the baseball
diamond in Dashwood thanks to a
couple of generous people.
Jim Dietrich
from the Dash-
wood Athletic As-
sociation said that
the existing dug-
outs on the di-
amond were torn
down because they
were unsafe and
they couldn't afford the $11,000 it
would cost to build new ones.
So Dietrich approached Pat
McCann from McCann Redi-Mix
for help and McCann responded by
funding half of the construction
costs.
"We live in the community and a
lot of McCann's play ball too," said
McCann who didn't hesitate to help
out with the project.
McCann Redi-Mix, located only
five miles down the road from the
ball diamond, donated half of the
cost and much of the labour while
the Athletic Association and Dash-
wood minor ball pitched in to
make-up the dif-
ference.
Tom Hayter
from Hayter Tur-
keys next to the
diamond, helped
out by donating
sand for the base
of the dugouts.
pretty happy about it be-
cause we couldn't afford to do it
ourselves," said Dietrich who vol-
unteered his time to organize the
project.
The new cement dugouts are 24 x
8 feet complete with benches and
coat racks.
"We won't have to worry about
fixing them. They should last for a
hundred years," said Dietrich
"We live in the
community and a
lot of McCann's
play ball too."
