Local golfer gets a hole -in -one on a par four green at Ironwood Golf Club Chris Skalkos T -A staff EXETER - Some would say last Tuesday's rain and windy weather made it a had day to golf. Others will say using a driver to tee -off on a narrow par four is a bad choice. But for Stu Homuth it couldn't have been a better combination. Last Tuesday night, Homuth got a hole -in -one on a par four at Iron- wood Golf Club, and no one is more surprised than Homuth. "A hole in one on a par four is sort of flukie. You don't usually aim for it," said Homuth. The extraordinary shot occurred on the number 12 hole on the back nine greens during a habitual mens Tuesday night outing. The foul weather sent many golfers home, but Homuth andAi few friends, Ke- vin Mcarter, Dae Holtzmann and club owner Gib Dow braved the elements and played on. Homuth used a driver to send the ball 301 yards down on to the green before losing sight of it. "It was a good shot and it was playing right," said Homuth who knew right away he got an ex- cellent shot off. "It was a long draw that headed toward the tree -line and curved back in," he said. Homuth was little surprised by the well executed swing con- sidering the circumstances. The field was wet, there was a brisk crosswind blowing and "a bunch of guys heckling in the background." The group of golfers searched for Homuth's ball but couldn't find it anywhere on the green. They scoured through the trees assuming it took a wild bounce back well be- hind the hole. Golfer Dave Holtzmann sug- gested they pull the pin, "but he was just joking," said Homuth. "We pulled the pin and there it was." "It takes a long time to sink in," he said about the incredible dis- covery. "The other guys were just standing around going'ahhhh'." Gib Dow, owner of Ironwood Golf club said a shot like that is very rare on a par four, especially on the number 12 hole because it's one of the newer and more chal- lenging additions to the golf course. "It's tradition that the guy who gets the hole -in -one is responsible for some fellowship," Dow said addigg the group went to celebrate in the club house where they "re- played the shot many times." $Io -pitch 95 South Huron Ladies May 4 Scores Huron Park Sharkettes 12 vs. Angels 21 Chrissy's Playgirls 5 vs. Gar's Girls 43 Murphy's 8 vs. Purina Chicks 23 Downtown Dollies 14 vs. Cheers 2 LaBatters 17 vs. Big 0 Sockettes 11 F.L.T. 5 vs. Sundowners 9 This Week's Scores - May 11 Gar's Girls 21 vs. Murphy's 4 Angels 14 vs. Chrissy's Playgirls 12 Standings W L T 2 0 0 O 0 0 O 0 0 O 0 0 1 0 0 O 0 0 2 0 0 O 0 0 1 0 0 O 0 0 1 0 0 1 0 0 Team Angels Big 0 Sockettes Cheers Chrissy's Playgirls Downtown Dollies F.L.T. EXETER - The Exeter Centenni- als won a decisive game over the visiting Albanians 3-2 Sunday bringing their win Toss record to one a piece. Exeter controlled the play for most of the game creating many scoring chances. Joe Martens lead- ing the defensive 'line kept the Al- banians scoring opportunities to a minimum. Jason Wright opened the scoring midway through the first half, head- ing home a rebound. Exeter's second goal came during a goal -mouth scramble, with Char lie Wise knocking in the marker. Wise scored again early in the sec- ond half with a well-timed shot past the charging Albanian goalkeeper pulling Exeter up by three. A free kick by the Albanians found its way past goalie Craig Winbows and they didn't waste any Centennials 3-2 win time striking again bringing the game within a goal. The Albanians failed to mo another offensive strike to ti• as the Centennials dominated the last few minutes of the game pro- tecting their lead and eventually gaining their three points. The Centennials continues league play in London tonight against the Olympians.
