Mary Peterson CENTRALIA - Sunday, May 14 was Mother's Day, and at Centralia United Church, it was celebrated as Christian Family Sunday. A special part of the service was the baptism of Sara Lynne Rooney, the daugh- ter of Kelly and John Rooney. Rev. Dr. Bob Graham supervised the welcoming of Sara into the Chris- tian community. The men sang the anthems which they had prepared for this celebra- tion - 'Spring of living water' and 'Love lifted me'. Pastor Heather Smith's sermon was entitled "Three Little Words." Youth group The youth of the local churches are reminded of the trip to Cana- da's Wonderland on June 3. Regis- tration forms should be returned to Rev. Paul Ross by May 24. Joint worship service The Community of Eight Area churches is planning a joint wor- ship service on Sunday, May 28, at Thames Road United Church. The orchestra and singsong will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the ser- vice at 11:00 a.m. with Jeff Swan as guest speaker. Practice for the combined choir will be held at Thames Road on May 14 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. If you are wishing to play in the band, come to the prac- tice at 8:30 p.m. There will be no worship service at Centralia or Zion on May 28. Villa service On May 31, there will be a wor- ship service at Exeter Villa at 2:30 p.m. Volunteers to assist with the service would be welcome. Plan to arfive at the Villa by 2:20 p.rn. Church services Centralia Sunday School will cel- ebrate their anniversary on June 4 at 11:30 a.m. Bev Robinson will be the guest speaker. On June 11 at 9:45 a.m., Zion Sunday School anniversary will be celebrated. The guest speaker will be Jeff Bettridge. Combined services will be held at Centralia and Zion at 10:00 a.m. in July. Refer to your church bulle- tin for a schedule. Euchre Canada Day festivities begin early HENSALL - Members of the Hensall Kinettes and Kinsmen kicked off Canada day festivities early with the raising of a Canadian flag for the corner of King Street and Highway 4 in Hensall. The Kinsmen donated the flag. pole and installation while the Kinettes held a colouring contest. The winners of the contest were Shannon Wedge who won a Ca- nadian coin mint set, Kcelan Power who won a map of Canada puzzle, and Spencer Bachnisch who won a Canada flag key chain. Paul Steckle, MP Huron County; Dave Collins and Cecil Pepper raised the flag to start the festiv- ities. There was another good turnout for euchre at Larry's Town and. Country Restaurant in Crediton. Hedy Devine and Percy Noels were High Hand winners, while Edith Eaton and Han -y Noels were Lone Hand winners. Winners of the Low hands were Dorothy Bullock and Alf lviathers. Singing In the streets Street musicians entertained Exeter patrons on Saturday in front of Four Seasons Jew- ellers on Main Street. "We want to get Exeter excited," says Jos Bervoets, one of the performers and the owner of Four Seasons. The three- some hope to be out regularly in the summer months. Car broken into on Main St., Exeter EXETER - Theft occurred on Monday, May 8, from a vehicle parked on Main Street, in front of a local business. A cellular phone, a temperature gauge, a tape measure, and a small amount of cash were stolen.
