Bluewater Recycling Associa- Committee, on Wednesday night at Village Council meeting in Zurich The committee has proposed a study to look at all aspects of sewage services in Huron County. With all municipalities participating, it would cost $18,000. A previous study recently looked at sewage issues in Huron, however the proposed study is predicted to be much more comprehensive. Currently there are three independent studies underway examining different sewage issues. These include Exeter and the need for increased capacity, Huron Park and upgrading a deteriorating plant, and also Hensall and the need for increased capacity. One alternative to these three stud- ies is to use the plant in Exeter as the common sewage location. The new county -wide study proposes to evaluate the sewage situation in each of the municipalities, and could deal with everything from boundary adjustments to sharing services between municipalities. The members of Zurich Council are leary of yet an- other study, and they want specific details and goals for the new study to achieve. "We've done so many studies, (and) we've spent so much money," said Reeve Dwayne Laporte. The other council members agreed with Reeve Laporte. "Our de- cision is not (to participate in the study) this year for financial contribu- tions, but it depends in the future what they are going to do with it (the study)." Municipalities are also coming together on the issue of recycling, re- ported council. Eight new municipalities have joined the Blue Box campaign, which costs $33.48 for each new household to join. Current- ly, there are 45,000 households in Huron County participating. People are encouraged to recycle everything because, "the more re- cyclables we send, the less money it costs the community," said Mau - tion in Huron Park have been so successful they are considering moving into waste collection, and have looked at buying a compactor truck. In the spirit of recycling, council also voted to declare the week of November 6 to 12 as Recycling Week, along with many other mu- nicipalities in Ontario. In celebrating Senior Citizen's month beginning June 1, council mem- bers planned this year's Senior's picnic fc r June 28. "It's actually indoors," said Simmons. "Because the par- ticipants would prefer the air conditioning." On the issue of Finance and Property, a community meeting will be held on June 14 at 7:OOpm in the Zurich Community Centre to discuss what once was Zurich Wood Products. The resident who owns the property wants it re- zoned so it can be used for a flea market. Another issue discussed was whether or not to accept a steel slide from Zurich Public School for the community playground. The school cannot use the slide anymore be- cause it will be too high for the new junior kindergarten stu- dents who are attending for the first time this fall. Council members pointed out that it could also be a haz- ard for young children in the community playground, and the liability cost is too high for the Town. Members also considered the cost of in- stallation and transporting the slide. A decision was made to politely de- cline the offer. It was announced that the Zurich Community Centre has been broken into "again", said Simmons. Vandals broke into the east side and caused significant damage. The incident is under investigation by the OPP. "It was mostly vandalism. But there was practically no money to take because it's the wrong time of the year." John Gibson was also appointed on Wednesday as Weed Inspector for Zurich. "We've done so many studies, (and) we've spent so much money." Reeve Laporte Office tender accepted ZURICH - At a special meeting on May 3, Hay township council Accepted the tender of Doug Geof- frey Construction Ltd. to construct a new municipal office. The accepted price was $307,839.99 providing it included a Lennox furnace and council re- served the right to make changes to reduce costs. Councillor Don Oesch declared a conflict of interest on this subject and left the council chambers. After Oesch returned, council did discuss various items that could be changed to reduce costs and these • proposed changes will form part of the contract. At an earlier meeting, council approved the proposed 1995 budget for the Zurich and area fire depart- ment of $39,336.12, with Hay's share being $22,268.16. Council is willing to amend the beach access requirement of the Webb Development Agreement if legal easement is obtained for use of the Association walkway. An amendment is being prepared to permit the issuance of a building permit for Part 3, Plan 22R-3452 and to require that the beach access • L1 .., -14 • , situation be resolved by August 1 of this year. In connection with the Huron County Addressing Committee, road superintendent Ross' Fisher will be the township's rep on the driving crew and each subdivision association will be asked if they wish to participate in naming of their roadways for the 911 emer- gency system. 1, Correction The photo which ran in the May 10 issue that accompanied the story "Local Health Fair brings new ide- as", should have identified Marlene Zwaan in the centre as a distributor of Nikken products. 30% Discount on DIAMOND ENGAGEMENT RINGS and ANNIVERSARY, DIAMOND RINGS Over $2000.00 with Cash or Cheque 25% Discount on DIAMOND ENGAGEMENT RINGS, ANNIVERSARY DIAMONDS and WEDDING RINGS with Credit Card or Layaway Plan from May 1 to May 31 R JEWELLERS LTDd Main Street Exeter (519) 235-2720 Vandalism. in Zurich Arena ZURICH - A break and enter oc- curred at the Zurich Arena on Wednesday night.
