ball for fun

game in Exeter on Thursday night.
EXETER - It's not competitive.
It's fun, and that's the way they like
it.
The South Huron Ladies Slo-
Pitch League got underway Thurs-
day with six teams playing in Exet-
er and Kirkton.
The league started over eight
years ago when a handful of wom-
en decided they didn't want to
play fastball anymore so they creat-
ed their own league.
Ann Johns, executive president of
the league explained that some of
the women couldn't keep the com-
mitment required to play fast -ball
on a competitive level, but they still
wanted to play ball for fun.
"As the women got older they
didn't have the time to play for
competitive teams. Travelling and
practicing took a lot of time away
from their families," said Johns.
Today the Ladies Slo-Pitch
League has 12 teams that are re-
sponsible for running themselves.
The teams consisting, mainly of lo-
cal women from Exeter and Kirk -
ton, play each other in a round rob-
in tournament and keep their games
to one night a week, Thursdays for
convenience.
Johns said that since the Womens
Fast -Ball team league became de-
funct there have been more young-
er, more competitive women en-
tering the Slo-Pitch ranks; however
it's ail stall for,fun.
