Dashwood WI enjoy slides

28 Dashwood Women's Institute
members and "Grandmothers' or
guests enjoyed a delicious pot luck
dinner at the Dashwood Communi-
ty Centre.
The conveners in charge of the
"Education and Cultural Activiti es
meeting were Mary Weber, Doro-
thy Restemayer and Luella Tie -
man.
The meeting opened with , the
Ode and Mary Stewart Collect.
The roll call was "Name the first
school you attended and how far
you walked" - after which mem-
bers introduced their guests.
The motto was "He who owns a
hobby owns a mental island of ref-
uge."
The conveners had their pro-
grams outlined for the following
year 1995-1996.
Plans were made to attend the
District Annual held at Usborne
School at 6:45 p.m. on May 18.
Members plan to attend the Dis-
trict Picnic held at Crediton Com-
munity Park on July 5.
Dorothy Restemayer read a
poem "Grandmothers Garden".
The guest speaker was Ruth
Anne Merner. She spoke about her
life-long love of travelling and
about the impact travel has had on
"Making Fine Chocolates Since 1981"

plained how exposure to differ-
ent cultures and environments is
such a powerful form of education.
Her slide presentation focused on
some of the recent trips the Mern-
ers have taken (Many with stu-
dents) to such destinations as New
York City, Europe and the Orient.
Winners of the draws for plants
were Ruth Anne Merner, Luella
Tiernan, Kaethe Freiter, Annie
Zielman, Greta Miller and Missy
Stire.
June meeting (mystery) will be
held on Tuesday June 6 at 7:30
p.m. with prizes given for best
decorated brown bag lunch.

directed by me to the Returning Officer in each electoral district, for the purpose of electing persons to represent the voters in the
Legislative Assembly of Ontario, public notice is hereby given of the following in each electoral district.
CAN YOU VOTE?
Those persons who on Election Day are 18 years of age or older, are Canadian citizens, and have resided in Ontario for the 6 months
preceding Election Day are eligible to vote. To vote, their names must be on the NEW LIST of VOTERS or on CERTIFICATES TO
VOTE issued by the Electoral District Returning Officer. In rural areas, they may be vouched for on Election Day.
Door to door enumeration begins May llth, 1995.

Sharing heartfelt gratitude on VE -Day
"If It wasn't for those people, I wouldn't be here," says Harry VanBergen with his dog
Lucky, about his display of gratitude to the Canadian soldiers who fought in World War
Two. His display was part of the many thanks that Canadian vets received this May 8, on
the 50th anniversary of VE -Day.
Volunteer appreciation
is shown by VON board
ILDERTON - Ten persons received five-year pins
during the VON HOMME Eastern Region Volun-
teer Recognition Event at the Ilderton Curling
Club April 24. Another 16 volunteers in the group
which serves seniors were awarded first-year pins.
Greg Schinkel, of the VON board, and Mary Dryden,
Executive Director, presented five-year pins to Marian Andrews, Doug
Andrews, Marnie Burchall, all of Ilderton; Angela Clarke, Norah El-
son, Lucan; Mary Hendriksen, Audrey McCutcheon, Margaret Mon-
teith, Thorndale; Mary -Ann Rosser, Denfield; and Ada Smith, Bryans-
ton.
In total, 87 volunteers put in 3,097 hours in providing services last
year to some 340 seniors in the Eastern Region of Middlesex County.
They drove 26,000 kilometers in providing such services as Meals on
Wheels (1,860 meals serving 37 seniors), transportation, Wellness
Clinic and Friendly Visiting etc. Expanding the Friendly Visiting is
one of the main projects for the present year.
Jackie Wells, manager of VON Volunteer Programs in the County,
indicated that the Wellness Clinics are expanding. Viola Higgs and
Mary -Ann Rosser were the first instructors in the Eastern Region. Cur-
rently, there are '10 clinics with 12 instructors across Middlesex
County.
Lois Bradfield, Ingersoll, entertained the volunteers with her delight-
ful impersonations of Minnie Pearl. Helen Chan, coordinator of the
Eastern Region, acted as Mistress of Ceremonies.
Volunteers received a 5 -year pin for service at Eastem Re-
gion of the VON HOMME program Volunteer Appreciation
Day program in Ilderton Monday. Left to right, Angela
