Summer trips planned
for Parkview residents
LUCAN - It has been a busy
month for the seniors at Parkview
Place in Lucan. They had a social
evening April 10 with hostesses
Carrie Kyle and Christy McLeod.
President Jo Clubb informed the
group of trips planned for the sum-
mer months and of a craft and bake
sale planned for June 10.
The speaker for the evening was
Rev. Frank Mantz from Parkwood
Hospital. His message was on atti-
tude towards illness and especially
cancer and that calm acceptance to
life in general was especially im-
portant to us.
The hostesses then surprised eve-
ryone by having a cake walk. Eve-
ryone enjoyed this and some won
cakes.
Lunch was served with birthday
cake for those with April birthdays.
Most of the seniors went to the
beef dinner at the arena on April 20
and to the Knights of Columbus eu-
chre night in the lounge.
The cribbage held Friday was
hosted by Henry Noels.
The seniors are saddened this
month by the death of Reg Blay, a
long time resident of Parkview
Place. Ed Armstrong is in hospital
but is doing well.
Residents welcome Jennie Hartle,
a new resident.
Students seeking
summer employment
By Leila Beier
Student Employment
Co-ordinator
EXETER - As we anxiously
await summers late arrival, stu-
dents are finishing school and are
eagerly seeking summer employ-
ment to pay for next years increas-
ing tuition. As students actively
begin their summer job search, the
doors of the "Student Employment
Office" open. This year the Cana-
da Employment Centre and the
Huron County Board of Education
together are coordinating the Stu-
dent Employment Program.
This year the student offices will
not be located in the Human Re-
sources Development Centre, also
known as the Canada Employment
Centre, as they have been in the
past. In order to have our services
more accessible to students in the
area, the Goderich and Exeter Stu-
dent Employment Offices will be
based out of Goderich District Col-
legiate Institute and South Huron
District High School respectively.
These offices will be open on May
23, 1995. Until then student jobs
will be posted near the main offic-
es in the secondary institutions.
The Canada Employment Centres
in Goderich and Exeter will also
post employment vacancies and
will have student registration cards
available.
As well, all employers are now to
call the Clinton office with their
Job Orders, in order to take advan-
tage of the numerous benefits that
hiring a student can offer. Leila
Beier is heading this office which
is located in the Learning Resourc-
es Centre (L.R.C.) on the second
floor, which is the west wing of
Central Huron Secondary School.
Students are encouraged to stop in
to fill out a registration card and to
check out the current job postings.
Student jobs will be posted outside
the Clinton Student Employment
Office, as well as by the main of-
fices in C.H.S.S. The office is now
open Monday through Friday 8:45
a.m. to 4:15 p.m. where job readi-
ness material and Social Insurance
applications will also be available.
It is believed that this partnership
will meet the needs of the students
seeking employment, as well em-
ployers needs will be met more ef-
fectively.
So, hire a student today by call-
ing 1-800-461-8545 or 482-9301.
Sun's effects discussed at Varna meeting
A speaker advised the UCW group
to use sun screen daily.
By Joan Beierling
VARNA - President Joyce Dowson opened the Var-
na U.C.W. meeting Thursday evening with a Mother's
Day reading. She reminded everyone of the bridal
shower for Joanne Consitt to be held Wednesday, May
17 at 7:45 p.m. at the Complex.
On Sunday May 28 the U.C.W. will be conducting
the church service. The campsite experience at Camp
Bimini will be held June 12 at 9:30 a.m.

Janet Webster was there to show a video on "Skin
Wellness" showing the effects of the sun on skin. She
said everyone should use sun screen with a strength of
at least SPF 15 every day during the spring and sum-
mer months. It should be part of your routine. Mini-
mize your sun exposure by avoiding the sun between
10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and wear clothing and wide -
brimmed hats to cover your skin

tember meeting will be held August 30, with supper
Cult followed by a trip to Huron Country Playhouse to
