Flower power hits Exeter EXETER - The Beautification Committee of the Exeter Business Association has announced that ar- rangements have been made with two local businesses to design and produce flower boxes for the front of each business. While each busi- ness will be paying for their own boxes, the Beautification Commit- tee has put considerable effort into researching designs, materials and making the appropriate arrange- ments. It has been decided that the box- es will be made of black wrought iron and while the presentation should fit into the town's Victorian theme, there is room for individual expression as well as distinctions to accommodate specific sizes and location needs. For instance, some businesses will wish to purchase long, narrow boxes to decorate windows on either side of their en- trance, while other businesses may need a frame which is shorter/ wider/taller. Some businesses may wish window boxes to be perma- nently affixed to their window ledges while others prefer a free- standing design. Whatever the preference, the Ex- eter Business Association strongly urges each business to take advan- tage of this program which serves two purposes: firstly, it support the community -wide "Canadian Bloom" program. the judging takes place in July, so we certainly want to be seen as a serious contender. Secondly, this program fits into the • . long-term streetscape improvement program which the Business Asso- ciation is spearheading. The wrought iron construction is in- tended to have a long life and it is, therefore, an investment in both your business and your community improvement program. The Beautification committee in- tends that this investment be made use of on a year-round basis with the flower boxes used for beautiful floral displays during the summer months while the winter months should see them filled with ever- green boughs. During the Christ- mas season, can't you just see our., Main Street festively decorated with ribbons and bows... even the odd twinkling light or two? The following are the names of the people to contact to have your flower boxes put into production: Dave Dalrymple, 235-4062, (Dave will do the design as well as the ex= terior and interior box construc- tion). Laverene Hamilton 235-1655 (Laverne will construct the exterior frame only). Usborne tree planting Carrie Prout, left, Robyn Etherington and Rick Etherington place a young Ash tree into its new home.
