Hawks honoured at awards banquet By Chris Skalkos T -A staff EXETER - In a blaze of black and gold decor, the athletes of the Exet- er Junior "D" Hawks were honoured at an awards banquet held in the Rec centre on Friday night. A total of eleven awards were handed out to the hockey players that made an extraordinary contribution to the Hawk's 1994-95 season. In addressing the audience President Tom McCann said it was difficult to choose only a few award recipients from a team of 26 talented players and reminded everyone that the Hawks successful season wasn't based on individual efforts. "Hockey is a team game. It takes a full squad to make things go and } u're all winners in our eyes," said McCann. "We did go a long way in solidifying this team. We went in on a high, and we put out a great ef- fort." he said. Head coach and general manager Dave Revington took a time out to thank the family members and friends for supporting the club and ac- knowledged the contributions of assistant coach Barry Baynham, assist- ant general manager John Pryde, trainers Mike Soldan, John Miller, Der- ek Schwartzentruber and Equipment Manager Wayne Dickens. The Hawks ended the 1994-95 s4ason with a 22-15-3 win, loss, tie record. They made the playoffs beating Be1tnc nt four games straight be- fore losing a see -saw battle to Lambeth in the seventh and last game. Tom McCann still won't forget "that one bad call" by the referee which helped Lambeth take the seventh game to end the Hawks season. But McCann credits that call, along with the other trial and errors the Hawks went through last year as a learning experience. One that they will take with them in to the oncoming season. "The boys learned a lot this year and next year we'll give'em hell," he said.
