Page 16 Times -Advocate, April 26. 1995 QOMMUNITY_ tt Varna crokinole player wins first place in tournament Four Varna players participated in Kitchener on Saturday. By Joan Beierling VARNA - Four Varna crokinole club members, Joe Fulop, Ray Beier - ling, Ivan and Marg McClymont, went to a tournament at the Joseph Schneider House in Kitchener on Saturday and placed third out of five clubs. Fulop came in first over all. Congratulations to Joe and his team. Elimination draw Tickets are available for the Truck Elimination Draw sponsored by the Stanley Township Rec Committee. The first draw for $500 is to be held May 24. The ticket purchase includes a dance and lunch for two on Sep- tember 2, 1995. For tickets, call Rec Committee members Lowell Mount, Jim Kirton and Ralph Elliot or the Stanley Township councillors or the Stanley Township office. The proceeds are for the lights at the Stanley Township baseball diamond. Stan Lee Club The Stan Lee Club meets Wednesday, May 3 at the complex at 8 p.m. UCW The Varna U.C.W. meeting will be held Thursday, May 4 at 8 p.m. Speaker Janet Webster will show a video and speak on the effects of the sun on skin. • Youth groups The Teens Youth Group are going bowling on Thursday, April 27. Sunday, April 30 will be the last Craft and Muffin Sale for the Trends Youth Group to be held in Goshen immediately after the church service. Tea and coffee will be served by the Trends. All are welcome to join in the time of fellowship. Donations appreciated AILSA CRAIG - The McGilliv- ray Sesquicentennial has donated approximately $6,150. and Brin- sley Trust has donated approxi- mately $1,400. towards the new booth at the Lieury Park. Bev Ritchie had the highest ten- der to remove the old booth and Rick Hodgins Construction has been awarded the job of building the new booth, with a small pavil- ion attached, with a lowest tender of $39,684. with 66 percent of the funds coming from the Infrastruc- ture Program. Jennison Construction had the lowest bid for supplying and spreading 26,500 tonnes of 3/4" "A" gravel on the western portion of the township, at a tender price $156,574.60. Pollard Highway Products will supply 180 tonne of Liquid Flake Calcium at $214.40 per tonne, which is a substantial increase in cost from past years. • Application for Ministry of Transportatiorof Ontario supple- mental funds has been made for $165,000.00 to purchase a new Grader, as this may be the last year for such subsidies, and also tenders will be invited for purchase of a new 1995 pick up truck. Bill Wasnidge has been appoint- ed McGillivray Township Live- stock Evaluator replacing his father Arnold. Bill shall become the third Faith Tabernacle CENTRALIA - There were lots of gardening questions for Susan Handerer on Friday evening at the April WM meeting. Susan has op- erated her own business for many years and shared most graciously her abundant knowledge of plant and gardening with the ladies. "Healing of our past hurts" was the topic on which Laurie Clapp spoke as guest speaker for the eve- ning. A delicious fellowship luncheon was held at the Centralia hall fol- lowing the morning service. There was a unique and side variety of name tags, in all shapes, sizes and colours, as each one were asked to design their own. Since no one would take the task of "judging" these creative masterpieces, a name was drawn for the prize of a delicious home made cake made by Henny Parker. The winners were Nick and Mary Braunch. Also receiving prizes for sitting in the specially marked chairs; Shar- on Parker, Nick Clapp and names drawn; Eileen Parker and Ken and Marlene Parker. The Billy Graham production "Power Play" was shown on Sun- day night and is highly recom- mended for all churches to show this excellent movie. This Friday night beginning at 6 p.m. will he a 12 hour prayer vigil ending at 6 a.m. Saturday morning where the needs of our congrega- tion, community and country will be held up in prayer. Everyone is welcome to come for any length of time throughout the 12 hours. Any special prayer requests may be left with Pastor Bob and Phyllis.
