WI members enjoy Victorian tea party KIPPEN - Sadie Craig of North - crest greeted the women of Kippen East Women's Institute at a Victo- rian Tea Party meeting held recent- ly. Grace Drummond opened the meeting with the Optimist's Creed. The Ode was sung and the Mary Stewart Collect was repeated. The roll call "Bring a family heirloom and tell its story' was answered and fees were paid. Grace Eyre paid an extra fine as she forgot to wear her Institute pin. The secretary's, treasurer's and auditor's report were given, along with the Resolutions, P.R.O., and program conveners' reports. The officers for 1995-1996 were installed: past president Ruby Tri- ebner; president Grace Drummond; secretary Helen MacLean; treasurer Mona Alderdice; branch directors Ruby Triebner, Phyllis Parsons; public relations and resolutions Mona Alderdice; co-ordinator Grace Drummond; district director Hilda Payne; sunshine Grace Eyre and Dorothy Bell; education and cultural activities Helen MacLean, Phyllis Parsons; Family and consumer affairs Rena Caldwell, Ruby Triebner; ag- riculture and Canadian industries Grace Eyre, Ruby Triebner; citizen- ship and world affairs Thea Wisch, Dorothy Bell; curator and pianist Hilda Payne; auditor Phyllis Par- sons. Hilda Payne gave a report of the District Board meeting. The Dis- trict Annual is to be held May 18 at Usborne Central School at 6 p.m. A meeting to plan for next years programs will be held May 4 at the home of the president Grace Drum- mond. A reading "Preparing income tax" was given. Members were served a lunch of sandwiches, crumpets, gingersnaps and tea. CH LET Spring fever at Blue Water ZURICH - The residents of Blue Water Rest Home got spring fever on Tuesday afternoon and started transplanting asters, marigolds and tomato plants. With a little bit of help, their hard labour was placed in the greenhouse for warmth and growth. Those doing the transplant- ing were Clara Hamilton, Murray McNab, Beatrice Eagleson, Ruby Fulcher, Vivian Fremlin, Esther Makins, Ruby Hoggarth, Vera Thiel, Rose Merner and Theodore (Ted) Steinbach. In the evening members of the Christian Reformed Church visited the home and entertained the resi- dents with hymn singing under the direction of Peter Visscher. Joyce Pepper was pianist, Willy Visscher read "He Arose," Annie Zandber- gen read "An Easter Prayer for Peace" and the choir sang one num- ber in Dutch interpreted "A Shout Rings Out in Joyful Voice." Fergus Turnbull thanked the group and as- sisted Bonnie Keller and Linda De- nomme serve refreshments. Rev. Ed Laksmanis, Zion United Church, Crediton conducted Thurs- day afternoon Chapel Service. In Fr. Matthias Wronski's absence, Holy Communion and prayers were read in lieu of Mass. The movies the past week have been "Cool Runnings" with John Candy and the recent release "Andre". Thursday evening it was toe tap- ping time as Max Ducharme and the Townliners entertained with good old time music. Harvey Smith on guitar, Doug Insley on Spanish guitar, Phyllis Deichert on piano and Claire Masse on guitar kept their audience swaying in their seats. Masse sang "The Crystal Chandelier", "Wabash Cannon Ball", "Take These Chains from my Heart" and the "Blue Skirt Waltz". Four couples got to their feet and danced to the popular tunes and everyone sang Happy Birthday to Annie Willert and Con- nie Graham who were celebrating their birthday that day. Cathy Shantz, Bonnie Keller, and Mia Creces served refreshments to the residents and their guests. Friday evening the auditorium held the sound of music as old friends of Nelson Howe visited the home to renew acquaintances. Ivan Norris on banjo, Rena Young on pi- ano, Jim Young on guitar, Fred Harburn on violin, Andrew Patrick on violin and Jack Duncan on vio- lin played many tunes of yester- year. Vera Theil thanked the group for sharing their evening with the residents and Fergus Turnbull, Rose Broderick and Linda De- nomme served the residents and guests refreshments. The residents look forward to seeing their grade five Buddies from St. Boniface School and the Lakeview Conservative Mennonite Choir on April 25, afternoon tea April 26 and facials hosted by Grand Bend Big V on April 28.
