CENTRALIA - The worship service at Centralia United Church was led
by Heather Smith on Sunday, April 23. Margaret Wilson read the scrip-
ture from Acts 5:27-32 and John 20:19-31. The sermon was entitled "Are
you for real?"
Flowers were placed in the sanctuary by Larry and Mary Cronyn in
memory of their daughter, Gayle, who passed away recently. Another for-
mer resident of the Centralia area, Rita Isaac, also passed away. The com-
munity wishes to express condolences and sympathy to their family and
friends at this time.
Following the service, the Stewards met briefly to discuss future plans.
They chose Larry Skinner as their new chairman.
Jamboree
Sunday afternoon and evening, many local musicians and friends enter-
tained a crowd of more than 250 at the Country and Western Jamboree at
the Lucan Community Centre. Ross McFalls and his friends had invited a
large number of musicians to share their talents, and the crowd enjoyed
every minute. Some people danced to favourite tunes including waltzes
and square dances.
In the kitchen, Audrey McFalls organized a dinner of beef on a bun,
served with the help of several of her friends. Harvey Smith was surprised
by a cake to help celebrate his birthday. The Jamboree was a great suc-
cess, and Ross and his pals will organize another musical event in the fall.

Flowers and herbs
plantecPat Queensway
HENSALL - On Monday eve-
ning, Queensway Nursing Home
residents had an opportunity to use
their green thumbs. They planted
various types of flower seeds for
planting outside later.
Earlier in the day they stepped
back into the past to see one of
Shirley Temple's earliest movies,
'Bright Eyes'.
At the weekly church service,
they welcomed back Shirley Lu-
ther. She is a regular minister at the
church services and was missed
when she was down south for the
winter. Everyone enjoyed sharing
music and prayer with her once
again.
Those who enjoy baking gathered
together and made a double batch
of Preacher's cookies and decorat-
ed them with maraschino cherries.
On Thursday afternoon, Mrs.
Phillips provided musical entertain-
ment on her electronic keyboard.
The residents enjoyed listening and
tapping their toes to old familiar
tunes.
Friday morning they planted a va-
riety of herbs.

Another possible smoking -induced problem current-
ly being investigated is psoriasis. Smoking could
be causing a 2 -3 -fold increase in risk of psoriasis
although more research is needed to find this out
for sure. Even if the risk is doubled, that means
that 1/4 of psoriasis cases are precipitated by smoking.
Inscribed on a panel in the gardens of a very ancient temple in Kyoto,
Japan are these words of wisdom in reaching a ripe old age: "economy
in meat, salt, sugar, food in general, trouble, anger, talk, clothing, car -
riding and material desires."
On the same panel are these 10 recommendations: "generosity with
vegetables, vinegar, fruit, chewing, sleep, laughter, activity, bathing,
walking and giving. -
Remember when you were young and your mom gave you ginger ale
when you weren't feeling good? Ginger has an antinauseant effect. Al-
though the amount in gingerale is minimal, it probably helped a little.
