Times Advocate, 1995-04-19, Page 7• fi Times -Advocate, April 19, 1995 Page 7 Easter sunrise service conducted outdoors By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD - Rev. Jim Allsop was in charge of the Good Friday evening church service at Thames Road church. The Responsive Reading was taken from John 13. The choir sang "They crucified my Lord" accompanied by organist Jean Hodgert. The scripture reading John 19:16-30 was read by Kay Cunning- • ton. The choir sang another anthem "Blessed Redeemer". The sermon was based on the words from the hymn "0 Sacred Head". Rev. Allsop would sing the words of the hymn with a commentary of the words between the lines, which was very effective. The closing hymn was "Lift High the Cross." Rev. Allsop conducted the Easter Sunrise service outside on Sunday morning. Approximately 80 adults and children enjoyed their breakfast. After the breakfast, the people went upstairs for the church service with Rev. Allsop in charge. A Hallelujah chorus opened the service. The Responsive Reading was Psalm 95:1-7. The choir sang "We'll crown Him" accompanied by pianist Marjorie Johns. Everyone sang the children's hymn "Walk softly in springtime" and Rev. Allsop told an East- er story to the children. The scripture lesson taken from the gospel of John 20:11-18 as told by Mary Magdalene was read by Anne Delbridge. The title of Rev. Allsop's sermon was "Easter - the most important day in history". The closing hymn "The strife is o'er" was sung. The benedic- tion "He is risen" brought a very impressive service to a close.
