WELLINGTON - They were expected to come up big and they did. The Exeter Legion Ladies Auxiliary Peewees beat the Prince Edward County Kings 3-2 last Friday clinching the OMHA title. The game was the third in a six point series that saw Exeter beat the PEC Kings twice at home before taking the final and deciding game in Prince Edward County sweeping the series in three games straight. It wasn't easy for the Peewees. The much bigger Kings played a phys- ical and aggressive game, but they were not fast enough to out -hustle Exeter. "Our speed killed them," said Exeter coach Bob McDonald. "Every win we got this year was because of our speed and the guys giving it a hundred and ten percent," said McDonald. With the game tied at two late in the third period Scott Keys banged in a rebound off of a slapshot from Kian MacDougall to put the Peewees up by a goal with only four seconds left in the period. Keys also opened up the scoring by getting the first goal in the first period. Mike Seip got the second goal and the two were assisted by Kian MacDougall, Ryan Groot and Jeff Campbell. A weary but excited team returned from Belleville Saturday night to be greeted by a ride on the town fire truck compliments of the Exeter Fire Department. The team proudly paraded the OMHA Cup up and down Main street with sirens blaring and the parents following close be- hind in a small convoy. The victory was a sweet cap to a very successful season. The Peewees ended the season with 43 wins 7 losses and 6 ties. Coach McDonald credits his team's success to some very solid and consistent goaltending by Ryan Sullivan and the overall team spirit that carried his players through the year. "We played like a team. We were led by our team captains and every- body followed very well," McDonald said.
