Reading is fun
Thursday was a time for reading at the Kirkton branch of the Huron County library. Above,

Peanut
S Butter Banana
Cream Pie
1-1/2 cup crushed graham wafer crumbs
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup - 2/3 cup melted butter
2-3 fresh bananas
1/2 cup smooth peanut butter
1 pkg. whipped topping or about 2 cups whipping cream
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla
• Combine first three ingredients and press into a 9" pie pan.
Put in oven at 350 deg. F. for 7 to 10 minutes. Do not overbake.
Cool.
•Melt peanut buffer and sugar in pan and set aside.
• Whip cream and fold in peanut butter mixture and vanilla
• Slice bananas on bottom of shell - pour whipped topping
over. Chill until set.

during March break
EXETER - This March Break
several businesses and organiza-
tions got involved in helping make
each and every program a great
success.
The Recreation Department
would like to take this opportunity
to thank their sponsors for their
support and co-operation.
"Up in the Air the Junior Birds -
men" had 18 participants who
learned a little about our fine feath-
ered friends and got to make and
take home their own bird houses.
Thanks go to staff from Ausable
Bayfield and the volunteer helpers
for their time and effort.
The youth Bingo was a roaring
success (roaring is based on the
noise level in the hall) with 187
youngsters in attendance. Thanks
go out to Dorothy Pfaff and her
4 helpers from the Legion Auxil-
iary, especially for scrambling at
the last minute to round up more
bingo cards. Ninety prizes were
donated by local businesses as fol-
lows and they can't be thanked
enough for their generosity:

The Rec. Centre's Second Annu-
al Road Hockey Tournament drew
30 teams of youngsters aged nine to
14 this year.
The Recreation Department ex-
tends a great big thank you to Ma-
cLeans Source for Sports for spon-
soring this year's tournament.
MacLeans supplied T-shirts, balls
and use of their van for the tourna-
ment.
In the 9, 10 category A Champs
were the Hurricanes and the B
Champs were the Raptors. The 11,
12 tournament winners were A
Champs Gumps and B Champs
Stingers. In the 13, 14 category A
Champs were Spitfires and B
Champs were the Grizzlies.
Thank you also to the TA for
covering this years event, to the
guys who lent their road hockey
nets and to Lucas and Lawrence for
doing a great job refereeing.
Joins Youth
Tour Band
EXETER - Erin Kraftcheck, has
been selected, on a basis of audi-
tion and recommendation, for
membership in the 1994 Canadian
Youth of Tour honours ensemble
program which will make a 'good-
will' concert tour of seven Europe-
an countries this coming July.
This select organization, consist-
ing of student players from New-
foundland through British Colum-
bia, will travel for three weeks in
England, France, West Germany,
Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Aus-
tria and the Netherlands. In addi-
tion to performing concerts in a
number of European cities, this en-
semble will visit musical shrines,
museums, and places of musical in-
terest, as well as attend select con-
certs and performances in various
European concert halls and opera
house.
Canadian Youth on Tour pro-
vides Canada's outstanding student
performers with an opportunity to
perform the best of concert band
literature in an organization of mu-
sical excellence while showcasing
the cultural achievements of Cana-
dian Youth on the "International
Stage".

tute members will be quilting this
week at the home of Joyce Miller.
The Templeman family enjoyed
an hour of skating at the Hensall
arena on Thursday.
Rob and Bev Templeman and
family have returned from a holi-
day in Florida.
Doris Miller, Exeter, visited on
Sunday with Ron and Gretta Miller
and family.

Baseball registration
this Saturday in Varna
Volunteers are need-
ed to coach the teams.

VARNA - Now that spring is fi-
nally here and the snow is all gone
it is time to start thinking about
baseball. The Stanley Township
Baseball registration will be held at
the Complex on both Saturday,
April 1 and April 8 from 9:30 to 12
p.m. The fee is $15 per single and
$30 per family. Coaches are need-
ed.
Stan Lee Club
The Stan Lee Club will meet
Wednesday, April 5 at the Blue
Fountain at 12 noon for lunch with
bowling to follow at 2 p.m.
Anyone interested should phone
Ivan McClymont a few days ahead.

The Varna U.C.W. meeting will
be held Thursday, April 6 at the
church. Heather Beierling will
speak on her time at Toc Alpha.
Auction
This April 1 will be the Huron
Centennial Parent council auction
with proceeds going to help repair
and replace the playground equip-
ment at the Huron Centennial
School. Tickets are $9 each and in-
clude a cold buffet during the eve-
ning. There will also be door priz-
es. This auction will be held at the
Stanley Township Complex.
Tickets are available in Bayfield
through Brandon's Hardware or in
Brucefield through Millington's or
also through any school family.
Youth groups
The Trends Youth Group will
meet Thursday, March 30 at 7:30
p.m. and Saturday, April 1 at the
Brucefield United Church. They
will be working on crafts with Es-
ter Cantelon in preparation for a
hake and craft sale to be held after
church April 2.
The Teens will meet April 13 for
a Bible study topic on self-esteem
with Dr. R. Ter-Viuget from Chris-
tian Counselling Services as guest
speaker.
Canoe rally
Get the canoes shined up and
ready to go for the tenth annual ca-
noe rally for the Stanley Township
Rec Committee on Sunday, April
Anyone entering a canoe in the
rally will have a chance to win a
canoe. Registration will begin at
12:30 p.m.
Orange Lodge
The Varna Orange Lodge reports
another successful Heart and
Stroke Fund canvass. This year
saw an increase of about $100 over
last year for a total of $1,318.50.
