LAMBETH - Seldom are back-
to-back games the same.
The Exeter Hawks found that out
on Sunday night as they lost 7-4 to
the host Lambeth Lancers in the
seventh and deciding game of the
OHA Junior Development League
west division semi-finals.
Just two nights earlier in Exeter,
the Hawks clearly dominated from
the opening faceoff to the final
buzzer as they won 7-1.
"Home ice was the series. That's
why you play all year. We couldn't
win in their rink," said Exeter
coach Dave Revington.
Lambeth, who will now go on to
meet Pt. Stanley in the division fi-
nal, finished second overall in the
regular standings with 52 points
while the Hawks were a close third
with 48 points. The Lancers, fin-
ishing higher, got the seventh game
in the series.
Sunday in Lambeth the Hawks
slipped behind 2-1 in the first pe-
riod as Craig Watson netted his
first of three just 1:53 into the game
and Glenn MacKinnon made it 2-0
with a shorthanded goal.
But Mark Livermore kept bang-
ing away at a loose puck and pulled
the Hawks to within a goal heading
into the first intermission.
Veteran forward Ray Cousineau,
playing in what would be his final
game as a Hawk, scored four min-
utes into the second frame as he
teamed with Geoff Maver. The goal
brought the Hawks' fans to life but
the celebration was short-lived as
Watson made it 3-2.
Brian Taylor gave the Lancers a
comfortable lead as he put one
through Darren Kints' legs and
when Kevin Kerr was all alone in
front of the Hawks net, it was 5-2.
"We tried to stay positive. I
thought they (Lambeth) played bet-
ter for 40 minutes. We said keep
plugging away and we changed our
defensive zone coverage," said
Revington as the Hawks began to
turn the game around.
With 8:22 left in the middle pe-
riod, Kints was met with a high
stick which seemed to knock him
out. He was motionless on the ice
for several minutes and had to be
helped off the ice.
Backup Brian Knight came on
and did not allow a goal. Exeter
seemed to rally around him as they
pulled to within a goal in the third
period.
"A goaltending change always
a positive affect. A

harder," said Revington.
Down 5-2, the comeback started
when Sean McCann put a lot of
pressure on the Lambeth zone and
fed it to Cousineau who got his sec-
ond of the game, this one short-
handed.
Just 19 seconds after this goal the
two, staying on the ice, almost
scored again. With 1:13 left
McCann scored but Nathan Burns

in Exeter on Saturday and 4-2 the following day in Mitchell.

and Scott Keys had a goal and an assist. MacDougall and Campbell set

have, I'm not surprised."
Exeter Legion peewee defenseman Kian Macdougall deliv-
ered a hit against Mitchell last Wednesday.

ward in front of Hawks' goalie Darren Kints during Friday's
game. Exeter won Game Six 7-1 but were eliminated on Sun-

Bogart-, Dalrymple had fun their first year with the Irish

"It was a lot of fun, we came a long way from the beginning," said el of ability. You have flexibility in your lineup," said Dalrymple.
Dalrymple who worked pritnarily with the defenseman. This was a
juggling act in itself as they had seven hluelincrs and some nights had
to sit either a rookie or veteran Derek Greenlee.
"It was fun," echoed Bogart. "We were pretty green, pardon the pun.
(the Irish colors arc green and white) We'd like to stay there a couple
of years."
Bogart and Dalrymple have been together for a fcw years now, they
brought an Ontario Minor Hockey Association midget 'CC' title to Ex-
eter in 1992.
They both have their Level III coaching certificate and both have a
promising future in hockey coaching. And what of the future; Dal-
rymple said once the two are done in Lucan and move on to possibly a
higher level, it could he time to go their separate ways.
Both have their respective responsibilities on the bench but Dal-
rymple may be right in that they should each try to go on as far as they
can. One certainly wouldn't prohibit another from going as far as he
can.
As far as coaching midgets and juniors arc concerned, there is some
difference in the age but with the Irish, or any other junior team, there
It was quite a season of change for the Lucan Irish.
Everything from a new coaching and training staff right to a team
filled with a lot of talented rookies.
As anyone who has made the jump will Id) you, going from minor
to junior hockey is a big leap. Although it is the same sport, there are a
lot of differences.
Exeter natives Scott Bogart and Jeff Dalrymple signed on to coach
the Irish of the OHA Junior Development League this past hockey sea-
son.
A team rich with history, celebrating 25 years of junior hockey, the
duo came in as strangers but by no means ended their first campaign as
strangers.
