CENTRALIA - Spring has arrived and many birds have now returned -
robins, sparrows, grackles, red -winged blackbirds, tundra swans and even
kildeer. The other day, when the sun was shining and there were still
snowbanks two feet high, I saw a dandelion. It was a single golden blos-
som, and I stopped, surprised to see this warm weather visitor already.
Heather Smith's sermon on Sunday at the United Church was entitled
"A Second Chance".
She has completed her exams at school and is looking forward to meet -
;ng more people from the congregations of Centralia and Zion West. The
Elders will be calling to arrange a time to visit.

When you are trying to lose weight, don't
weigh yourself every day. A moderate accepta-
ble weight loss is about 2 Ib. per week or 4.6
oz. per day which doesn't register on most
home scales. So you don't get discouraged,
weigh yourself weekly.
Snow -shovelling can be strenuous enough to cause heart attacks
in certain people. Unconsciously, we will hold your breath when
lifting which can raise blood pressure and heart rate. The cold
weather also causes blood vessels to constrict forcing the heart
to work harder. So if you have a heart problem, get someone
else to shovel your walk.
A pilot project in Britain pays a pregnant woman about $21 per
month to quit smoking. Monitoring for carbon monoxide in their
breath is done regularly. It's cheaper to spend the money now,
rather than face the much greater costs later to care for babies
111 from a cigarette -smoking mom.
When you buy Vitamin E, pay a bit more for the natural form.
Look for the designation "d -alpha tocopherol" on the label. The
synthetic form, known as "d,1 -alpha tocopherol" is cheaper but
Is much Tess potent.
