Horse "N" Around with new tack shop Partners Johns and Finlayson set to open western store By Heather Vincent T -A staff EXETER - The town of Exeter can add one more new business to its growing list of recent ventures locating on Main Street. Pauline Johns and Connie Finlay- son have finished renovations and started stocking the shelves for their tack and west- ern wear shop slat- ed to open by the week of April 1 at the latest. The sisters have been involved with riding since they were children and Finlayson is a member of the Ex- eter Saddle Club. open for business. Besides supplying tack for se- rious riders, the store will provide all the western wear for line danc- ing. Stock will include boots, shirts, hats and jeans. Of special interest to country music fans, the store will be get- ting five styles of the shirts singer Garth Brooks will be wearing on tour. "We are going to cater to line danc- ing...and the truck drivers wear a lot shirts and boots," said "When I wanted to buy something for the horses or show clothes, you have to drive so far to get it." The idea of opening a store which would sup- ply Western and English tack as well as western clothing came to Finlayson at the end of last year. After conducting a survey and talking to lots of people associated with riding, the idea began to take shape. The shop at 430 Main, Street was one of only three spaces available for lease in Exeter. After a few coats of paint and of course a new sign, the shop is nearly ready to of western Finlayson. Much of the tack is Canadian al- though some of the specialty cloth- ing and accessories is supplied by companies located in Nashville and Texas. A lot of the saddle equip- ment comes from Stratford and Brantford. "The boots and all our shirts are Canadian -made, we prefer the Ca- nadian suppliers so that we can get stuff faster," said Johns. The store will also provide a ser- vice for harness and saddle repairs. They can also provide contacts for people interested in boarding horses or taking riding lessons. The Canadian Tire store on Main street has a new dealer. Mario Schuchardt is from Victoria B.C. where he owned and managed his own store before replacing Tim Talon here in Exeter two weeks ago. Schuchardt has been in- volved with the Canadian Tire company for 14 years. Pleads guilty SARNIA - Just four days before facing an attempted murder charge, Grand Bend restauranteur Ralph L. Duby pleaded guilty in Sarnia court March 6 to a lesser charge of as- sault causing bodily harm. Duby, who had been charged with stabbing his son, Joseph Duby in an altercation January 1, 1994 at the Coral Reef Restaurant in Grand Bend received a 60 -day jail term to be served intermittently, one year's probation and is also prohibited from owning weapons for 10 years.
