retiring
ZURICH - A presentation of
a watch and long distance gift
certificates was made to Genie
Fleischauer who has worked as
custodian with the village for
over 20 years She will be re-
tiring effective April 1 and
will be replaced by Bonnie
Groot.
It was noted by the Rec-
reation Parks and Community
Centre Board Chairman Joe
Kenda will be resigning his
position effective May 1,
1995. Kenda has held the po-
sition for 8 years. It was dis-
cussed by council who would
be approached to replace Ken -
da. The new member must be
a resident of the municipality,
living within the village boun-
daries.
Construction of a work shop
scheduled to begin in May, ad-
jacent to the fire hall and pump
house, will require new walls
in order to hold loads from the
taller building. Cement block
walls with footings will be
needed. The construction is
still in the planning stage and
.is part of an infrastructure pro-
gram.
MOH resigns
GODERICH - After more than
seven years as Huron County's
Medical Officer of Health, Dr.
Maarten Bokhout is resigning ef-
fective May 31.
He made the announcement at a
recent Board of Health meeting.
Bokhout had maintained his prac-
tice in Clinton which he spent
about about 15 to 20 hours on
while he was the MOH and plans
on returning to after he resigns
from the county. His biggest con-
cern over the past seven years has
been the battle to fight tobacco use.
While there is the possibility of
sharing the Perth MOH, this will
probably only be on a short term
basis as the Board of Health, under
the Health Protection and Pro-
motion Act, has to have a MOH.

Hay to call local tenders
ZURICH - At A regular meeting of March 6, Hay
township council voted to call tenders for ccrostruc-
tion of the new municipal office from ratepayers of
the township.
On a request from deputy reeve Jim Love the vote
on this motion was recorded. Love and reeve Murray
Keys were opposed, but the motion carried on the
strength of support from councillors Blaise Du-
charme, Don Oesch and Gerald Shantz.
Clerk Janisse Zimmerman was authorized to adver-
tise for tenders for the issue and fee collection of dog
tags. These tenders are to be submitted to the clerk by
noon on March 20.
Council has decided not to become involved in the
joint operation of the Port Blake Conservation Area
with the township of Stephen and the village of
Grand Bend.
The township has adopted the 1995 Ministry of
Transportation for roads budget with total expendi-
tures of $382,000 and road superintendent Ross Fish-
er has beeen instructed to apply for a supplementary
allocation from MTO in the amount of $110,000 for
resurfacing of Concession 2 from Highway 84 north
to the township boundary.
Council and staff will be in charge of organizing
the New Year's Sesquicentennial levee on January 1
of 1996.
After a meeting of the South Huron Local Govern-
ment Liaison Committee, council has agreed on some
of the long range goals and plans which apply to their
municipality.
Development along Highway 21 in the recreation
area will be encouraged along with promotion of
home occupations and home industries in the agricul-
tural areas.
The township will be willing to share services with
other municipalities as available and required to pro-
mote economy and efficiency.
Another suggestion was to construct a sewer sys-
tem which would cover areas along Highway 21, in
Dashwood and to existing properties just north of Ex-
eter and also expand the water system to the entire
township.
No increase In
Zurich waste
site tipping fees
By Heather Vincent
T -A staff
ZURICH - The Waste Site
Board for the Village of Zurich
have recommended that tipping
fees remain the same for 1995.
Effective April 1 the charge will
be $15 per cubic yard. There
will be no charge for stoves, wa-
ter tanks and scrap metal items.
A motion was accepted by
council at Thursday's meeting to
not charge for refrigerators or
any units tagged freon-free.
Items containing freon will be
accepted, at a fee of $50.
Although tipping fees are in
line with Stephen and Hay
Townships, the board budget re-
ports a deficit of $2,000 to
$3,000. The reserve money
present in the budget is allocat-
ed to close the site down. The
deficit could be split between
councils using the site. It was
decided no change would be
made.
"We can't see any more chang-
es," said Councillor Brad Clau-
sius.
After much discussion by
council regarding the two village
signs to be replaced, it was re-
vealed that the signs have al-
ready been designed and cut.
Any changes or additions would
result in an increased cost.
"Who actually thought about
the fair? We left the fair out for
the last 125 years," said Clausius
in regards to the Fair Board's re-
quest to have the fair dates add-
ed to the sign.
Although money has not yet
been approved for the project,
the signs will be replaced as the
existing ones are in poor condi-
tion.
Lucan council
accepts
expansion
project
LUCAN - Council has agreed to
accept the estimated final sewer ex-
pansion project cost of $6,928,209
as stated in a memo from David
Lee of the Ministry dated February
7, 1995.
Council will also accept addi-
tional engineering fees exceeding
the agreement in the amount of
$35,821.69 excluding GST and that
these overexpenditures will be de-
ducted from the contractor's hold -
hack of $51,000. Council's approval
for payment is subject to the Onta-
rio Clean Water Agency's verifica-
tion and recommendation.
Works superintendent Doug John-
ston reported that during the infil-
tration camera work, Liqui-Force
found concrete blocked about 40
percent of a 30 foot section of main.
This would cost $6,800 plus $1,700
for cleaning of the pumping station.
Council asked for an exact dollar
figure prior to giving approval.
On the Elm street park situation,
Johnston said slats have been
placed on the bridge, but the sides
are yet to be installed.
