The meeting opened with a wel- come to Caven from Donna Web- ster, greetings from Caven ladies by Margaret Strang and hello in three different Ganahian dialects by Jean Easton. The program 'The Earth is a House for all People" was pre- pared by the women of Ghana. Three years ago when the program was being prepared the country was peaceful, hospitable and a land of very gentle people. However, in 1994 conflicts arose and a state of emergency was de- clared. Whole villages were de- stroyed, palaces were burnt, churches attacked, people dis- placed and children orphaned. But there was hope. Due to strong fam- ily connections enemies started es- corting enemies to safe areas and sharing food - people were still hospitable and caring for each oth- er. International embassies and or- ganizations responded to their call for assistance. They realized the world is really only a small village - we are all neighbors. Rev. Gwen Brown, special speaker, emphasized "the Earth is a House for all People". The scrip- ture that had been read "The Prodi- gal Son" is true today. The reac- tion of the second son is also true. A musical selection by the Caven choir was enjoyed and a social time with lunch by the Caven Church followed the meeting.
