Shrove Tuesday pancakes
enjoyed in Centralia UC
By Mary Peterson
CENTRALIA - As we approach spring, we've had a wide variety of
weather conditions - snowstorms, freezing rain, fog, and a few days of
wonderful sunshine. I'm sure that the six robins I saw the other day shiver-
ing in the freezing rain were wondering what would be next!
On Shrove Tuesday, many enjoyed pancakes and sausages at Centralia
United Church. The Stewards and Manse committee from Centralia and
Zion West organized the supper.
While tables were cleared and dishes washed, Ross McFalls and the or-
chestra entertained with some lively music.
Church service
On Sunday, March 5, the U.C.W. led the services at Centralia and at
Zion West. The congregation at Zion took part in the quilt service and the
church was decorated with many family treasures. At Centralia, Audrey
McFalls, June Essery, Lois Wilson and Dorothy Rollings organized regu-
lar worship with many people participating.
Before the service, Judy Mills provided some lively piano music, and
Heather Smith led a singsong. Jean Caslick opened the service on behalf
of the U.C.W.
Marlene and Crelene Duck led the Lenten Tenebrae Liturgy. They extin-
guished the first candle to symbolize drawing away from the light of God.
Donna Smith invited the children to look in a mirror and to comment on
what they saw. Each child was asked if they loved the person they saw
there. The story was about Johnny, his friend Elmer, and his bus driver,
Sam.
The prayer of confession was led by Becky Harrett, and Shirley Prance.
Audrey McFalls presented a sermon entitled "Love Thy Self'.
Church cleaning
Several of the church women, and some of the men, gave the church a
thorough cleaning, much needed after recent renovations. Marg Cook do-
nated new carpet for the choir area.
