The Keenager's at the Craigwiel Day Centre for Seniors are thankful for the good weather that has allowed them to continue their attendance at the Centre. A few days have been missed because of storms, but most of those were this month. There have been some craft days as usual, but after the very success- ful Christmas bazaar, we relaxed as bit and have done some things just for fun. For instance, have you ever noticed that we as adults, (in- cluding seniors) enjoy some things, but don't allow oursevles to do it unless we can do so in the guise of helping a child? Now if you don't spill the beans on us, we'll let you in on a bit of a secret. One day, we closed the Curtains and doors, laid out some .wool blankets on the tables and had the time of our lives blowing bubbles! And (Shh-hh now) we didn't even have any children there! We've also enjoyed some of the "Little House on the Prairie" video series, and the "Reminisce Hitch" on their journey across America. A six horse hitch driven by Davis Helmuth accompanied by his fi- nance Vicki Thompson, who be- came his bride on their way through Ohio, brought back some memories as we watched those beautiful big horses majestically pulling their wagon through some scenic countryside. Of course, Evelyn McNaughton continues fascinating us with her travels .She has'shown us the Ca- nary Islands and Cuba already this year and we are looking forward to a trip to Chili. She is off on an- other Cruise as of this writing so that she can continue to take us on those interesting journeys. Donna Waterman too, has been a very popular repeat visitor. She has spoken to us on a variety of topics such as "Heart Health" and "Loneliness and Community Re- sources" and "The Importance of Humour". Her talks are always well presented and inspire a lot of discussion and sharing. How won- derful to have the services of dedi- cated Public Health nurses! Lawrence Coddington and his gracious wife came all the way from St. Marys to make us some delicious rolls. They were at the Centre in time to have some hot out of the oven for our morning coffee. Oh the delicious aroma we arrived to that morning! Law- rence's mother spent some time at Craigholme a number of years ago. We hope that he will return with his labour of love again. In this day of computers we have come a long way from the pen or even the manual typewriter. We had a try at all three at the Centre. Doug Young brought us one of each to try. Some of us who have experienced strokes, with his tutor- ing, have even typed a letter to family members. Do you think we can talk our families into a comput- er for Christmas? We have put our Dutch shuffle- board and Wheel of Fortune boards to good use. Especially since we kilyour words the talking 153/FiFpr Call 235-1331 Theft of walkman On the IOth of February 1995 unknown persons entered a locker at the Clinton Highschdol and removed a Sony CD Discman D 131 Walkman player. The locker was entered between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00. The victim feels that someone knew the combination for the locker. Video games stolen Clinton Culprits rented four video games from Star Time Video in Clinton on the 9th of February 1995 and did not return them. The games were rented to male person approximately 14-15 years old, medium length blonde hair, and medium height and weight. There was also three oth- er males involved. The gains taken were: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Top Gear, Donkey Kong Country and road Rash 11. Mischief Usborne Central School On the 5th of February 1995 somebody drove onto the school prop- erty on a snowmobile and then kicked the glass in on two of the main doors. Entry was not gained to the school. Tires slashed Tnckersmith Twp. At Concession 1 Tuckersmith Township on the 5th or 6th of Febru- ary 1995 between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 am., vandal or vandals slashed four tires on a vehicle. Damage was approximately $800. If you have information about these or any other crimes call CRIME STOPPERS OF HURON COUNTY 1.800.265.1777 OR 524-6851 and you could twelve a reward of up to $1000. REMEMBER CRIME DOESN'T PAY CRIME STOPPERS DOES have some new pros who come to the Centre, we can get quite a game going! Sometimes we just talk about the good old days, or have a day to brag about our children, grandchil- dren or nieces and nephews, or share some good riddles and jokes with each other. Valentine's Day was a good time to remember the loves of our lives, so we told each other about the proposals that changed our lives. The day we reminisced about trains, Murray Diner aided the memories by bring- ing his model train, his train whis- tles and paraphanelia. Remember the sound of the steam whistle echoing through the frosty morning air? If one lived anywhere near the track, its progress could be seen by the smoke as it choo-chooed along Does anyone know the different signals of a train whistle? Maybe you could visit us and share your memory with us too. Helen McDonald did that for us. She brought some antiques in to trigger our memories, and that it did. Pictures of barn raising, old tools and dishes and the promise that she would return again. Our Creative Director brought in !few things from her family treasures, like her grandmother's wedding blouse, her great-grandmother's veil and glasses and an 1878 Geog- raphy book. Do you know what the provinces and territories of Canada looked like then? If Quebec did separate, and took only what was then Que- bec, it would not have very much of Canada! It's only a month from the time spring actually arrives, so we've put up a calendar to note the signs of spring's coming. That means there shouldn't be too many days that getting to the Centre may be difficult, so why don't you give it a try? Watch this paper and your local drugstores and doctor offices 1n the next few months for an offer you can't refuse! We will be look- ing forward to seeing you. 60th wedding anniversary Ken and Irene Johns celebrated their 60th wedding an- niversary Friday at the Exeter Villa. The couple were mar- ried February 25 at the Elimville United Church. They farmed for many years on Lot 18, Concession 7 of Us- bome township before moving to Exeter. They have a daughter Sylvia Bullas of London and two sons, Robert of Exeter and Stanley of Halifax. Funding for municipal road work in Middlesex announced TORONTO - Middlesex MPP Irene Mathyssen announced Friday that the municipalities and First Nations of Middlesex will receive more than $7.7 million in provincial funding to build and repair local roads in 1995. "This funding is extremely important to us," said Mathyssen. "It not only builds roads. These funds also put people to work and strengthen our community. "Every million spent on construction creates 17 full -year jobs. That means, over the next 12 months, the two levels of government - mu- nicipal and provincial - will create some 12,000 jobs right across the province from this funding." These funds are a part of the provincial government's commitment of $704 million for municipal roads across Ontario in 1995 and is in addition the annual funding provided for provincial highways. The province is also investing $722 million to help municipalities make local improvements through the Canada -Ontario Infrastructure Works program. The province provides funding assistance to 880 municipalities and First Nations to maintain approximately 135,000 kilometres of urban and rural municipal roads; upgrade bridges and other structures, and install traffic signals and control systems for the safe, efficient move- ment of traffic. "The province recognizes the significance municipal roads have on our communities," said Mathyssen. "Improving municipal roads also improves road safety and the efficient movement of people and goods." 1995 Provincial Subsidy Funding for road construction and mainte- nance in Middlesex County Middlesex 53,424,900 (initial allocation) Townships Adelaide $136,500 Biddulph $169,500 Caradoc $437,100 Delaware $168,100 North Dorchester 5312,500 Ekfrid $306,300 Lobo 5337,000 London $411,400 McGillivray 5270,800 Metcalfe 5141,200 Mosa $311,200 West Nissouri 5220,900 East Williams $183,400 West Williams S138,600 Towns Parkhill 561,700 Strathroy $309,800 Villages Ailsa Craig • 530,500 Glencoe 559,700 Lucan 550,900 Newbury 511,900 Wardsville 59,900 First Nations Onyota'a:ka 595,300 Chippewa; of the Thames S104,600.
