Casual clothing store to
open in Exeter March 13
Sisters will enhance appeal of the local business core
By Heather Vincent
T -A staff
EXETER - Scheduled to open
March 13, Sisters is a clothing store
located on Main Street in Exeter
which is committed to creating
links between women in the com-
munity.
Partners Bonnie Bayn-
ham and Laurie Clarke
have been "lifelong
friends" since they were
young children, said
Baynham. The idea of
opening a store which
would fill a need in the
community as well as
support the creative efforts of local
women, was a natural for the two
fast friends.
Clarke, who has been working in
the grocery store business for some
time was ready for a change. Bayn-
ham who once owned The Beat, a
clothing store in Exeter had the
background to get the idea off the
ground. The Beat closed in 1987
but Baynham learned from her ex-
periences and is
ready to give small
business another
try.
The store will
stock hand-knit
sweaters and vests
from Guatemala,
Peru and Africa.
The clothing label,
Pashu is a line of clothing the pro-
prietors chose for "quality at a real-
ly good price," said Baynham.
The image the store is aiming to
"We have
been out
hunting for
good prices."
Bonnie Baynham above displays hand -made earrings created
by Shelley Yeo of London. The jewelry will be available at "Sis-
ters", a new clothing store opening March 13 on Main Street
in Exeter. Baynham's partner in the business and close
friend is Laurie Clarke.
project is an urban look. Sisters
will stock comfortable casual
clothes for the buyer roughly be-
tween 20 and 45 years.
In addition to a line of basic
clothing, stocking other products
made for women, by women. is
part of the overall plan. One -of -a -
kind jewellery created by Shelley
Yeo is an affordable form of wear-
able art. Earrings start at $14.
Painted pots and candlesticks
supplied by Liz Sinard of Grand
Bend and massage oil arc other
items the duo plans to deal in.
Clothes for the spring season will
include wrap-around dresses, leg-
gings and casual linen garments.
"We have been out hunting for
good prices," said Baynham.
Huron Cancer
Society
branch calls
for volunteers
STRATFORD - The Huron
branch of the Canadian Cancer So-
ciety has dissolved due to amalga-
mation with the Perth Unit which is
centred in Stratford.
The society has made an appeal
for volunteers to replace the execu-
tive positions left when many indi-
viduals left the Huron County
branch. These positions require a
long-term commitment for general-
ly one to two years. Volunteers are
also needed for the April door-to-
door daffodil fundraising cam-
paign.
The society said in a recent news
release that if there are not enough
volunteers in a branch, it will lose
its status and identity and fall under
another branch's jurisdiction.

unteer, contact the Huron -Perth
unit at 1-800-294-0086.
