Partners Bonnie Bayn- ham and Laurie Clarke have been "lifelong friends" since they were young children, said Baynham. The idea of opening a store which would fill a need in the community as well as support the creative efforts of local women, was a natural for the two fast friends. Clarke, who has been working in the grocery store business for some time was ready for a change. Bayn- ham who once owned The Beat, a clothing store in Exeter had the background to get the idea off the ground. The Beat closed in 1987 but Baynham learned from her ex- periences and is ready to give small business another try. The store will stock hand-knit sweaters and vests from Guatemala, Peru and Africa. The clothing label, Pashu is a line of clothing the pro- prietors chose for "quality at a real- ly good price," said Baynham.
