Staffa WI donate funds
to community projects
The group had a pot-
luck
otluck dinner with their
spouses and friends
before their meeting.
By Roberta Templeman
STAFFA - Staffa Women's Insti-
tute members, their spouses and
friends enjoyed a potluck dinner in
the township hall on Wednesday
evening with over 35 in attendance.
Following the dinner, W.I. mem-
bers had a short business meeting
when community, county and Insti-
tute projects were chosen to be do-
nated to.
Tickets were sold on two boxes
of groceries with Betty Lou Norris
and Bill Kerslake the lucky win-
ners.
Cards rounded out an enjoyable
evening.
Many from this community at-
tended the production of "Anne of
Green Gables" Thursday and Fri-
day evenings at Upper Thames Ele-
mentary School.
Participants were Grade seven
and eight students under the Iead6r-
ship of Brad Carew.
Blue Water residents
enjoy pie party
RICH,=. 2fa IMorday afternoon r<itoylo Blue Water gest Home was
"Iron Will", a Walt Disney production.
Tuesday evening members of the Christian Reformed Church, Exeter
visited the Home to entertain the residents. Peter Visscher was chairperson
and Joyce Pepper was pianist for the group. Willie Visscher read "A
Prayer for the New Year" and Annie Zandbergen read "A New Year
Brings a New Beginning". Many of the residents' favourite hymns were
sung - "Rock of Ages", "I Love to Tell the Story" and "Count Your Bless-
ings" and "God Be With You." Cookies were served by Linda Denomme,
NA, Loreen Devine and Fergus Turnbull.
Pastor Larry Stojkovic, Zion Lutheran Church, Dashwood, conducted
Thursday afternoon Chapel Service. Pastor Stojkovic has been a dedicated
minister at the Horne the past seven to eight years and will be missed by
residents and staff as he heads south of the border, near Rochester to an-
swer the call. Fr. Matthias Wronski, St. Boniface Church, Zur ch, celebrat-
ed Mass.
Thursday evening the residents enjoyed a pie party at the home as Cathy
Shantz, Adjuvant, did a quiz with the residents to give her the name of a
pie from A to Z. After the mental contest, the reward was the sampling of
all kinds of pie - lemon, chocolate, pecan, apple and elderberry prepared
by the kitchen staff.
An apology to Delores Schilbe who was called Dorothy in last week's
article. She donated Hawaiian decorations for the resident/staff pot luck
supper at the home on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce. Our apology
to Josef Risi. We mentioned he was entering his 25th year as Administra-
tor of the Home. Risi is entering his 26th year. Vera Thiel gave a card and
money donation from the residents of the home, not the staff as stated in
last weeks article. A slap on the wrist with a wet noodle for the secretary
for not keeping things straight.
The residents look forward to a visit by their Grade five Buddies at St.
Boniface School, Zurich on January 31 in the morning; and in the after-
noon Bible Study with Rev. Gani Lazaro, Zurich United Church.
Cathy Shantz, Adjuvant is looking for a guest speaker with knowledge
of "Baseball or Hockey Cards". If you have a large collection, or feel you
have knowledge you would like to share with the residents one afternoon
or evening, please give Cathy a call at 519-236-4373.

January can be a dreary month. A condition called
"seasonal affective disorder" (SAD) can contribute
to a depressive feeling due largely to the fewer
hours of sunlight during the winter months. Expo-
sure to broad-spectrum Tight can help relieve this
condition.
Got a dry, hacking cough? Look for cough, syrups containing "dextrome-
thorphan" for relief. It elevates the cough threshold and works within 30
minutes. Effects last from 4-10 hours depending on formulation.
Speaking of coughs.... at night, a cough may be due to a post -nasal
drip. Sometimes, §IeepIng on your stomach will help reduce the drip
and the cough.
In 1914, the term "birth -control" was coined. In 1918, Margaret Sanger
opened the first birth -control clinic in the U.S.A. It was promptly raided
by police. It wasn't until 1960, that the first birth -control gW came on
the market.
