reation Centre, the Mini Classics and the Clas-
sics put on a dress rehearsal for family and
friends as they prepare for their first competi-
tion, the Niagara Invitational in Burlington on
Saturday.

Hoopers beaten by the Vikings
High school sports will now take a break for exams
EXETER - It had to come to an
end sometime.
South Huron District High
School's junior boys basketball
team lost its first Huron Conference
game Monday afternoon, a slim
two-point game, 52-50 to the vis-
iting Goderich Vikings.
This one was very close through-
out as the Vikings led 20-14 at the
end of the first quarter, it was 28-24
at the half and Goderich were up
42-34 after -three quarters.
David Farquhar led the Panthers
with 12 points, eight of those in the
second half including a three -
pointer. Luke Sims netted nine
points and he also had a three -
pointer.
In one of their better comeback
attempts of the season, the South
Huron seniors were edged 46-45.
The Panthers had a good chance to
win this when both Dennis
McCann and Marty DeBruyn bat-
tled on the boards but couldn't con-
vert the basket.
Trailing 37-26 at the end of the
third quarter, the Panthers, despite
playing with a height disadvantage,
really came to life in the final eight
minutes.
DeBruyn scored just 27 seconds
into the fourth period on a well -
executed inbounds play right under
the basket. A couple of minutes lat-
er he had his second steal of the
quarter and managed to cut the Vi-
kings lead down to six.
While the Panthers had a strong
fourth quarter, they were even more
impressive in the third after slip-
ping behind 31-19. After Gode-
rich's Tim Kelly hit a three -pointer
at the haltttme buzzer, the 1 -anthers
the hosts came out after the break
and Dwayne McCann scored im-
mediately.
Some strong defence by Joe Mas-
kell and Bryan McAllister resulted
in baskets. The Vikings didn't score
until there was five -and -a -half min-
utes gone in the second half.
The midget boys team continued
to struggled, dropping their third in
a row, this one a 66-26 defeat.
Goderich led 26-14 at the half but
really poured it on in the second
half.
Hockey team eliminated: The
Panthers hockey team travelled to
London last week where they par-
ticipated in the 32 -team St. Thomas
Aquinas Flames Cup Invitational
High School Hockey Tournament.
Thursday they opened with a 7-0
loss to London Lucas but bounced
back the same night and beat Sud-
bury Notre Dame 8-0.
Scott Barclay led the scoring with
three goals while Dwight Gingerich
fired two and singled went to Tre-
South Huron's Michelle Ducharme goes up for a block against Goderich during senior girls vol-
leyball action on Thursday. All three Panthers teams took on Goderich and Seaforth.

Friday morning South Huron
came up short 5-3 to Tillsonburg as
Taylor, Rob Kobayashi and Ginge-
rich scored. The Panthers advanced
out of their pool to take on North
Bay West Ferris and were beaten 3-
1 as Taylor had the lone goal.
"Nathan Hem played well (in net)
the whole tournament and Trevor
Taylor was named the Most Val-
uable Player for South Huron," said
coach Dave Cox.
