Stephen Township is the first of local, mu- nicipalities to officially declare that the Exeter and Area Fire Department, is to perform on land-based emergency rescues in the township. "We like to state it, as our policy, that we don't require water rescues," said township ad- ministrator Larry Brown, pointing out that nei- ther the Exeter department, nor the township's own tire department, have the boats, equip- ment, or training for water rescues. So what would happen, if someone were stranded in a flooded part of the township? "I guess we would look to police, possibly," said Brown, or suggested the township contact a fire department equipped and trained for wa- ter rescues. If a snowmobiler were to fall through the ice of Morrison Dam, for example, Middleton said the fire department is equipped to throw buoys and lines out from the edge of the land, and would contact the OPP for further help. Middleton said the Exeter department is still handling silo entry and rescues, but will have to update its equipment in the coming months. Grand Bend council asked to contribute to April AMO meeting GRAND BEND - In April, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario will be holding a mid- term board of directors meeting at the Oakwood Inn near Grand Bend. At the recent Grand Bend council meeting, a letter from the Town of Exeter was received asking Grand Bend to help sup- port this event. Exeter reeve Bill Mickle is the president of AMO. "These are people from across Ontario. Maybe we should con- sider a contribution," said Grand Bend mayor Cam Ivey. The village already pays an AMO membership fee of $721 per year and councillor Barbara Wheeldon questioned whether or not Bosanquet Township or Huron County would be contrib- uting. "It's very difficult to put down a value what we would get, out of this," said councillor Phil Ma- guire. "It's certainly something we support in principle."
