Elimination draw planned. in Zurich

ZURICH - Members of St. Boniface K. of C. are selling tickets for the
Elimination Draw to take'place at the Zurich Community Centre on Febru-
ary 24 to raise money for the bell tower of the new church. Phone Doug
Debus if you need a ticket. The evening will also consist of a Karaoke
Night which cost $6.00 per person and includes lunch. •
Don't forget to get your skates sharpened for the St. Boniface Parish
P.T.A. skating party that will be held at the Zurich Arena on January 29
from 2-4 p.m.
The Zurich Agricultural Society will be holding their annual dinner
meeting at the Dominion Tavern on January 26 at 6:30 p.m.
Everyone connected with the Zurich Fair is welcome.

plan to attend.
A retreat for farmers and their spouses will be held at the Loyola House
in London from January 27 to 29. For more information phone Jane Craw-

On January 18 there will be a parents group meeting at the Zurich Public
School beginning at 7:30 'p.m. in the gym. 1t will be an information eve-
ning on various school related projects. Guest speaker for the evening is
Paul Carroll, director of education.

Memorial service to be
held at Hensall church

vice will be for the late
Minnie Noakes.

HENSALL - A memorial service
for the late Minnie Noakes will'
take place at Carmel Presbyterian
Church in Hensall, on January 28 at
2 p.m. Rev. Mark Gaskin will con-
duct the service assisted by Rev.
Charles Henderson.
Legion
The Hensall Legion held their
regular meeting January 11 at
which the Legion welcomed three
new members to the branch. Bon
nie Bozzato, Lorraine Baldwin, and
Shawn Wurm were installed.
January 25, Mel Harper, the Pro-
vincial Service Officer, will be vis-
iting the branch. Anyone wishing to
talk to Harper please call president
Larry Uyl and an appointment will
be set up.
January 28 there 'will be cribbage.
Anyone interested please come out

speaking at the Legion. The snow
date will be February 28.
May 8 there will be a 50th anni-
versary celebration of the victory in
Europe. There will be skits and mu-
sic by the Hay family at London's
Centennial Hall. For further infor-

The Legion ended a busy year by
distributing 14 baskets to the vets
and shut-ins for Christmas. The Le-
gion begins 1995 by wishing all
their members a very happy new
year.
Friendship Circle
The Friendship Circle of Hensall
United Church met January 9 at 1
p.m. Shirley McAllister welcomed
all and read a "New Year's Wish."
Roll call was answered by 16, each
giving their wish for the church in
1995.
Hensall United Church will host
the World's Day of Prayer, March
3.
McAllister told the group about a
couple from the London confer-
ence, Bill and Karen Butt. Both are
teachers who have volunteered to
serve the Ethiopian Orthodox
church, for three months. A collec-
tion was taken to buy small articles
such as pencils, hair bows, bar-
rettes etc., for the couple to take to
the children.
Mary Brintnell gave the devo-
tion, using "A Wise Bit of Coun-
cil" as her theme. Belva Fuss was
pianist for the afternoon. Shirley
McAllister gave each member an
article on how M&S Funds are
used in the Presbytery.
Closing the meeting Shirley gave
a reading "This Year Believe in
Yourself". The group then stood in
a circle and recited the Mizpah
Benediction. Marg Cole and Mary
Brintnell served lunch.
Sunset Seniors
Hensall Sunset Seniors met Janu-
ary 10 at Hensall United Church
with 17 members present. Presi-
dent Helen McKay introduced Kar-
en Dickins and Marty from the
Bank of Montreal. They.-in&ormed
the group of the services available
for seniors. Volunteers are needed
in Huron county to help in reading
and learning programs. The group
will be entertaining at Huronview
March 15. The January 16 euchre
at the arena is cancelled. It will be'
held February 13 at the arena at
7:30 p.m., admissipn is $2.00.
Jeanette Turner was hostess for the
meeting. Winners of the cards were
high, Jeanette Turner and Marg
Cole; low Martha Roosenboom,
Kirk Kuik; lone hands Greta Kuik.
United Church
The ladies of the' afternoon group
of the Hensall United Church njet
at the church January 5. Elva For-
rest opened the meeting by reading
a poem. Evelyn Flynn had the de-
votional, with "Tile New year'; as
the theme. Isobel Rogerson was the
pianist for the evening. Evelyn
Flynn read scripture from 2nd Co-
rinthians and Ephesians. Evelyn
also gave a prayer 'and 'Audrey
Christie read a poem entitled
"Faith".
Elva Forrest received the offering
and dedicated it. The minutes of
the December meeting were read
and roll call taken. Fifty-one visits
were made, Mary Roobol reported
that 53 cards were sent. Elva
thanked everyone for taking part
and the meeting closed with the
Mizbah Benediction.

members pay
1995 dues
EXETER - The evening unit of
Exeter United Church Women met
January 9 in the ladies parlour with
Norma Cockwill in charge.
Thirty-six members paid their
1995 dues as they answered the
roll. Following the secretary's and
the treasurer's reports, Helen
Coates reminded everyone of the
Huron -Perth Presbyterial to be held
at Stratford Central United on Feb-
ruary 13. Sylvia Smith encouraged
everyone to read the new books re-
cently purchased for the library.
Donna Paynter announced that the
next executive meeting will be held
January 25 and the next general
meeting is January 30.
Devotions under the leadership of
Marjorie Coleman were based on
the theme of a Happy New Year.
Guest speaker for the evening was
Joyce Doig of Seaforth who trav-
elled to Russia in 1991 with a
group called People to eeople. She
was thanked by Eleanor Clarke and
presented with a plant and a gift of
money. The meeting closed with
lunch served by Susan MacGre-
gor's group.
On January 25 the senior grades will be taking part in the annual
Knights of Columbus basketball free throw competition held at St. Boni-
face School gym at 4:15 p.m.
It doesn't look like there will be a cookbook for the upcoming 30th bean
festival anniversary in August after all, as organizers Cynthia Tripp and
Rose Erb don't have enough recipes to get things started.
All seniors are invited to bowl on Thursday afternoons at 2 p.m. at the
Town & Country Lanes in Zurich.
Several women around town are busy during the winter months getting
together at various homes and doing some quilting.
Willie and Martha Overhdlt, Zurich, along with son Pete and Lee -Ann
Overholt and daughter Malory of Grand Bend, returned home on the
weekend after an enjoyable three week vacation in Lakeland, Florida.
While there they visited with Willie's brother, Vic and Jackie Overholt.
They also visited Disney Wrld, Epcot Centre, Sea World and Universal
Studios. j
Get well wishes go out to Andrew Rau and Mozart Gelinas Sr., who are
patients in Victoria Hospital.
Happy birthday wishes• go to Brian Desjardine on January 13; to Karl
Regier Sr. on January 11; to Jerome Sweeney orrrJanuary 18.
Congratulations to Annie Finkbeiner on her 91st birthday on January 5.
She had a lot of surprises from relatives and friends. She is doing well as
she still lives alone, and drives her car around town.
A joint birthday dinner was held at the Sweeney home on Sunday for
Meagan and Jerome Sweeney, Marie Gelinas Sr. and Paul Klopp.
