Our office is,happy to announce
that we are currently fitting a com-
pletely in -the -Canal hearing instru-
ment. This remarkable new heanng
instrument is not only more discreet
and comfortable to wear, but may
also provide important hearing bene-
fits because of its deep placement in
the ear canal.
The fympanette is the smallest
hearing instrument ever manufac-
twed by Starkey Laboratories, the
world's leading manufacturer of cus-
tom hearing instruments. Its
extremely small size will be very pop-
ular, so call now for vour.hearing
assessment and consultation. CaII

Local churches supporting
grain growing project
The churches plan to
grow grain for the
Canadian Food Grains
Bank.
By Joan Beierling
VARNA - At the suggestion of
Presbytery, Varna, Goshen and
Centennial United Church in Strat-
ford are joining together as Mission
Partners for a grain growing project
for the Canadian Food Grain
Banks. The local committee mem-
bers are Don Taylor as chairman
and Jack Coleman, John Dowson,
Steve Keys, Ron Keys, Gerald
Hayter and other members from
Centennial.
All three churches will have
fundraising projects to raise money
to purchase materials for growing
crops.
The same fundraising will be
done in February as usual. They are
also considering pulpit exchanges,
joint meetings and social events. In
the spring they are planning to have
a stone picking bee followed by a
social time like a picnic or lunch.
The objective is to learn more
about the concerns about both ur-
ban and rural congregations.
The first objective will be to rent
land for cropping and anyone with
land to rent is encouraged to call
Don Taylor at 482-9976.
The Varna U.C.W. will meet
Thursday, January 12 at 8 p.m. at
the church.
Crokinole
The crokinole party held at the
Varna church Tuesday December
27 was quite successful with five
tables in play. High man was Joe
Fulop with 47 points and high lady
was Joan Beierling with 45 points.
They decided to give the door
prizes out as an elimination draw.
The fifth name to come out went to
Bob Robilliard, 10th name was
Joan Beierling, 15th name was
Conrad Sitter and Margaret
Hayter's was the 20th name. Lunch
was then served with a social time.
Sincere sympathy and prayers go
out to Margaret Hayter and her
family on the passing of her hus-
band Mervyn. Flowers placed in
the church were in loving memory
of Mervyn.
Stan Lee Club
Seventeen tnembers of Stan Lee
Club met at the Complex on Janu-
ary 4 at 12:30 p.m. Following the
singing of "Grace" the group en-
joyed a tasty luncheon.
Norene and Elmer Hayter were
conveners for this meeting. Norene
gave an appropriate New Years
reading. Anna Keys followed with
a humourous reading prescribing
some remedies for headaches.
Bob Stirling gave the treasurer's
report and announced they now
have 40 members. However the at-
tendance was down at this meeting
as many folks have gone to a
warmer climate and the cold blus-
tery day discouraged some from at-
tending.
President Anna Keys read a
thank you card from the family of
the late Mervyn Hayter.
A meeting will be held in Gode-
rich on January 17 from 1:30 p.m.
to 3:30 concerning Bill 173, long
term care for seniors. M.P.P. Paul
Klopp will be attendance to answer
questions.
Charles and Bernice Reid will
convene the next meeting on Feb-
ruary 1 at 8 p.m.
Ten games of euchre were
played. Prize winners were Bertha
Taylor, Gladys Peck, Fred Robin-
son and Hugh McBride.
Following cards, tea and coffee
and goodies remaining front lunch
were served.
Church meetings
Varna church's annual meeting
will be held January 22 following
the church service. All reports
should be in immediately. Gosh -
en's meeting will be January 29.
Recreation events
The Stanley Township Rec Com-
mittee met last Wednesday evening
to plan events for 1995! The family
