Exeter drew first blood after 12:42 into the first when Marty de- Bruyn made it 1-0 with Rob Morrisey and Paul Knight assisting. The Chiefs made it 2-0 at 9:10 of the second stanza when Ben Kaaks shot a loose puck into the top right corner of the net. Greg Hendrick and Morrisey drew the assists. The Chiefs regained a two goal lead in the third when John Rutten scored from Hendrick and Dan Finkbeiner. Again Langton made it interesting by scoring with 5:20 left in the game, but Exeter hung on for the victory. Chiefs manager John Rasenherg didn't dispute a bench minor handed to his team at the end of the second period when the Exeter players didn't return directly to their bench. Rasenberg said the rules are clear for going to the bench at the buzzer. Assistant coach Mike.Soldan said deBruyn continues to be a force for the Chiefs with some solid defensive play plus the fact he can put the puck in the next when needed. Soldan added Morrisey de- livered some crushing checks on his Langton victims. Irish co -coach Jason Bukala said his team "just didn't play very well" versus Exeter. "if it wasn't for goalie Mike Boyce it could've been a lot worse," Bukala said.
