My Christmas Tradition
By Leanne Cronyn, Grade 5
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School
The night before.Christmas is when
my tradition starts. First we have
our Christmas dinner. Next we go
to the 7 p.m. mass. When we get
home we- read "The Night Before
Christmas" as a family and go
downstairs to look at the Christmas
tree, then we go to bed. In the
morning we can't look at the spark-
ly Christmas tree; we have to go
right upstairs because my dad likes
to videotape us when we open our
presents. Before we open them we
used to wait for my Aunt Gail. Sad=
ly she passed away: We go to my'
Grandma Cronyn's or Parson's on
Christmas Day. Then we open our
big brand new presents under •my
Grandma's Christmas tree. We' eat
our dinner and sing songs for the '
parents. After. we play with our
toys and play cards. I think_my ira-
dition is very exciting.
r l
Just thought we'd drop you a line to
let you know that we live at the same
house as we did last year. Thank you
for the gifts you brought us last -
Christmas. That was real swell! This
year it would be great to have'some
• sharptooth's and longneck's. Oh how
we love those dinosaurs. Safe fly-
ing!:,.you jolly elf.

resource visitors will begin inten-
sive training on January 26, .1998.
Parents have shared that bringing
home a new baby is a life changing
experience that they don't feel pre-
pared for: Along with this, some
parents lack the support of family.
stable finances and knowledge of
what resources are available in
their community.
The Healthy Babies, Healthy
Children Program is designed to
heip these new parents connect
with community resources. This
program will allow the whole com-
munity to make 'sure that parents
get the support and‘ services they
need. This community wilt'include
not only the health professionals
and social workers but also recre-
ation departments, churches, parent
groups and many others.
Starting'in January. hospitals will
ensure ,that all new parents -in need
of support or_services will be con-
nected with the Healthy Baby,
Healthy Children co-ordinator at
their local health unit.
fn Huron and Perth counties the
co-ordinator is a public health
nurse experienced in working with
young families and community
resources. These public health
nurses will work with each family
to help them identify which sup-
ports and services would be of most
benefit to them.
The Healthy Baby, Healthy
Children Program will be providing
a limited new service that involves
home visits to expectant and new
parents who are in the greatest need
of support.
The Huron and Perth Health
Units are now recruiting parent
resource visitors. For more infor-
mation refer to the ad in this news-
