Buying blue jeans for Christmas
Exeter because of the friendly and personal touch. It
was so nice to have the store manager inquire about
my new job. my family and, of course. how she could
help. •
While we were talking, a middle-aged gentleman
enteredthe store. He lookedabout in a sheepish and
confused manner. With an' understanding smile' to
me. the store manager excused herself to offer assis-
tance. to him.
He explained that he was there to buy a pair of blue
jeans for his wife for Christmas. The store. manager
asked if there was a particular style or make he had in
mind. He looked confused and said "No...." She
asked if he knew what size his wife wore. He stated
that his wife had mentioned some Ching about 32. She
asked if that was the length or the waist size - he
.wasn't sure. She asked what size she, wore. He an-
swered that she had mentioned size ten. Now she. fig-
ured she had it narrowed down. She asked if his wife
preferred pleated`or fitted. He wasn't sure.
Then she asked if his.wife had a small waist and
larger hips - an hourglass figure. Or did she have a
figure more straight up and down?
He hesitated for just•a moment and then said, "She
is just right."
.He left the store a short while later, commenting as
he left ihat he would have to come back... this was
more complicated than he had thought:
But to the wife who may get the wrong size or
wrong style jeans this year for. Christmas... it doesn't
matter... because in his heart. you are just right!

Suntastic seeks water from Exeter
750,000 liters per day are needed to support an
additional 30 acres of greenhouses
• By Kate Monk
TAT -A RTrter
EXETER - Nearly one full year into the pro-
duction of hothouse tomatoes, Suntastic
Greenhouse Inc. wants to expand to 50 acres.
But it needs a secure source of clean water be-
fore it can do so.
Eric Kints and Gerhard Metzger of Suntastic
attended the Exeter council meeting last Mon-
day to request 750,000 liters of water per day
from March to October of each year in order
to service the additional 30 acres of green-
houses Suntastic would like to build.
Suntastic opened its business with an 11 -
acre greenhouse in the spring of this year and
has nearly completed the construction of an
additional 10- acre greenhouse.
"if we have the assurance of water, we
would build another 10 acres in '98," Kints
said.
Metzger said Suntastic uses 250.000 liters
per day in its 11 -acre greenhouse. He an-
ticipates each 10 -acre greenhouse will also re-
quire 250,000 liters of water per day. Saying
Suntastic has enough wells to supply the 20
acres of greenhouses now standing, it would
need the guarantee of a secure supply of an ad-
ditional 750,000 liters per day before it could
continue to expand.
Metzger said he would prefer water without
chlorine but would be able to remove the
chemical on site if necessary.
Metzger admitted he is con-
cerned about any negative
impacts drawing 500,000 11'
ters per day might have on
neighbors' wells.
Exeter chief administrative
officer Rick Hundey said lat-
er in the week, 750,000 liters
per day is the amount of wa-
ter used by 1,200 Exeter res-
idents in a day.
Kints asked council to consider the impact
of Suntastic on the local economy. According
to Kints, more than 60 local people are now
employed to operate the 10 -acre greenhouse,
pumping nearly $I -million in wages into the
economy. He predicts by the year 2000, the 50
acres of gtteenhouses could employ 250-300
people, have a payroll of $4.5-5 million and
annual sales of $25-25 million.
"Consider what the benefits will be to local
businesses and the economy," Kints told coun-
cil.
At the same council meeting; Bev Prout of
Usbome Township repeated a request for wa-
ter for a house owned by Prout
and her husband Tom. The water
is required only for domestic use
since there.is no livestock on the
site. The Prouts' problem is an
unreliable water supply due to a
fluctuation in the water table.
Bob Hamather, on behalf of
Huron Motor Products in Us -
borne Township, is seeking a
hook-up to the town's water supply. Harnather
said the business barely has enough water to
wash cars and run the washrooms. He said
HMP would like to 'expand but cannot do so
without a secure water supply.
Mayor Ben Hoogenboom said council
would study the requests in January. • .
