EXETER - Last Tuesday, con-
tributors to. the renovated library at
South Huron District .Secondary
School attended a reception to -cel-
ebrate their work. •
"This is a maturation of the way
we work with community partner.-
ships." Paul Carroll, Director of the
. Huron County •Board of Education
said. "The community is taking
back ownership and pride in the
school."
. While the entire library. is an im-
pressive site. the new .pentium
'computers are the key connection
16 the community. .
in the summer. SHDHS principal
Bill Gerth approached Exeter busi-
nessman George Godbolt with the
concept. The school was working
with antiquated computers which'
couldn't • run .today's software.
Would local- businesses and in-
dividuals sponsor 20 new pentiums
_for the high school library?
. Godbolt checked. with a few col-
- leagues- who agreed the fund-.
_raising campaign was a gond idea.
Godbolt. said he really believed
• the campaign could work when the
Lions'Ciuh executive immediately'
• responded to his request last sum-
mer by donating $2.000 t buy -a
new computer.. .
"At .that point. 1 knew' this wa
going to work," Godbolt said. `
From (here. the support grew -to
more than 30 contributors.. White

. ed donations. :School Advisory

campaign: •- • • •
"It proved businesses and •cit -
hens in this community support
quality education. And we didn't
• just support our own kids. Most of
us already.. have this computer
. equipment in our homes. We did it
because some kids don't have these
.(computers)." Godbolt explained.
Although the initial goal was to
• equip the . library with pentium •
computers; there has been a sig-
nificant spin-off frdm the cam-
paign. Others have come forth to'
donate used computers. 'Toronto
Dominion has donated 30. re-
furbished computers. •• '
"Another 15 used computers
have been • donated from various
ministry offices who became aware'
, of the campaign," Gerth said.
Godbolt said these additional do-
nations- are the legacy of the cam-
paign.:.
"We all need to.. he thinking of
What we have that the schools
could use." Godboltemphasized.
Teacher -librarian Nancy -Hunter
said the renovations are a vast im-
provement .from the former
mpsphere.
"The facilities were great for the
60's," she said. "The students ap-
preciate the difference in the com-
• paters."
• • Students can now take advantage
of educational CDs which the- old
computers could` not, run. Hunter
said the library and computers are
very popular with the students. • •
"I'm very pleased that it worked
out and appreciated that • Bill
(Gerth) initiated it with us," God -
holt said.
