The Christmas break is almost here and the school has been busting
with Christmas activities. Christmas tunes have:been playing over the
• P.A. system every, morning.before class and the "Snowflake Ball"
Christmas semi -formal was held on Thursday, December 11. The
-home room door decorating competition has been completed and the
.school is looking veryfestive as a result. Congratulations to the win-
, ners. Prizes -will be given out On Friday. December 19.
The Christmas bureau campaign is going well and several gifts and
. armed rood items have been coming in: More canned goods can he -
used. so students who want. to bring in food can drop it off: by the
Christmas tree in the main.ti>yer.
The opening_ for the new ihrary took place on Tuesday. 'December
.9. from 1:30 - 3 p.m, Some local businesses took: part in a program
"Lease a PC for the Future.' and this 1s how it was possible for
as to get new computers. People spuke'about the new facility that was
made possible by the co-operation between the community and
s hool .
.Amon_ the speakers were Paul Carroll. the director of education for
Huron county. and. Allan Caner, the elected chairperson of the board:
it was said that this event is :setting the tone for the future when -.the
'school and community will work Mere closely together. Mrs. Hunter.
the school teacher/librarian also spoke of how the community is work-
1ng together with the school and noted. that the library is used more of-.
ten. now than_everbefore.- The computers are constantly in use and.
the new 'facilities are mote weli:uming and convenient for students.
.The grade 11 drama class put on wonderful performanees for Chil-
dren's .Theatre on December 9 and 11. Young children from elemen-
tary Schools came to S.H.S.H.S. th see performances on the 9 and the
group,_travelled to elementary schools to perform on the 11. The class
"shetld.becongratulated as•all of the plays were not only acted -.out bv�
the Students. but were also student written and directed.
The annual Comedy Night was on -Tuesday. December 9. The OAC
drama class worked tor:six weeks on writing, acting, and directing in
preparahun for the -show, It drew. in quite a tew.peopte and overall •
was a Success.
Friday. December 19 will be a hat day. so bring in. a dollar so you
.can wear your Santa hat:
For students who have had _rad. photos taken, they can be picked
up, at the school on January ( from 1 1:40-12: f5 in (he main foyer.
Retakes will be on April 2.
. There are still diplomas in the main office to be picked up for the
students -who graduated last year.
1996/97 yearbooks are on sale in room 97 for $25.
Exams will begin on Tuesday, January 20 and run until Monday.
January 26. •There will no longer be.a P.A. day due to shuffling in the
schedule. The tint day of the second semester will be on Tuesday.

McCurdy Public School on Thursday to entertain students
from Usbome, Zurich and McCurdy Public Schools. The
troupe visited Stephen Central School Thursday moming.

Seniors met at the Community Hall

Phoney bill found in Grand Bend

Exeter vehicle break-ins

EXETER Thieves got a head start on their Christrnas shopping by -
breaking into two vehicles in Exeter last week:
The first theft happened-hetiue 7 aan..on Dec. 9. Someone broke
into an '84 Mazda un Carling St. and stole a Kenwood 6 -pack CD
changer (serial .470102513. model KDCC560) and a case with' 4b CDs,
Const. John Marshall said. Together the two items are valued at 51.000.
The second theft happened before 11:40 -pan. on Dec. I 1 on Gidley
St. Someone broke into an '84 Find LTD and' stole a black nylon wallet'
including a driver's licence. birth certificate. Soctal Insurance card and
other identification as well as 525(1 1n cash. Also stolen was a dark
brown leather wallet containing identification hut no cash.
Ilderton Do -It Centre break-in
ILDERTON - Thieves used it vehicle -to break the gate and door to
the llderton Do -It Centre on Sunday al about 2:30 a.m., London OPP
Const.'Donna Shulist said.' .
About 520(1 damage was done and store stall were to fax a list of
stolen items to the OPP . •
