He said the song didn't get•in because they were running out of time and when a couple of bits had to be cut, unfortunately '"White Wonder". was one of them. "You couldn't imagine just how close we got." he said enthusiasticallyY. Long occasionally and sometimes subconsciously throws in other Canadian references, but this usually isn't a problem because. "Dave Ioves•Canada." he said. Although he enjoys what he does and Hives New York. Long admits he misses where he grew up and •can't wait to come home in December to go by his.old high school again. "1 wouldn't trade my upbringing'in Exeter for' anything," he said. "Small towns are unique. My - friends who grew tip in New York all grew up the same way. All of them hung out in malls " Long works with a staff old 10 who hying to scripts and ideas to hint. He then takes the scripts with his own and revises them. Once he Lias done this he pitches the ideas to Letterman who tells Long if he wants to use it. Besides -working for Letterman, Long said he has a hobby he likes to take seriously. • . "My only hobby is sleep and !don't even get to do that often Working twelve-hour days, live days a week. for one of the m most -watched late night progras on television. a hobby like sleep' is not hard to understand. Tim Long - head writer for The Late Show NEW YORK - Do you remember Tim Long from . highschool. your average student who liked to hang out with his friends in coffee'shops? Well, that average student. who in high school said he wanted a job -where he didn't really have to do much, is now one of the head writers for The Late Show with David Letterman. Tim Long, who was born in Manitoba and raised in Exeter has been working for CBS for the past two years in Manhattan, and for the past seven months out (A' that time. 28 -year-old Long has been head writer for one of the most watched late-night talk shows in North America. So, how did Long become one of the zaniest, wittiest, sarcastic writers on comedy television? Long graduated front South Huron District . High School in 1987. after which he went to the University of Toronto to take English. His first taste of entertainment writing was in 1990 when he was head of the entertainment section at the University of Toronto's student newspaper. After this, Long was hired to work ata New York based magazine called Spy. From there he worked for two summers at the. Late Show. gradually making his way up the rungs of the ladder. Maddock traveling westbound un Hwy.2 in his '90 Ford pickup at'about 120 km/h while passing numerous cars ,it a time. Demclo, 30. • Demelo tried to steer his car into the south ditch while Maddock headed in,thc same direction. The vehicles met head -un on'the south shoulder.ut the road. Demelo and two passengers. both London men in their 40s. and Maddock were taken to ingersoll's Alexandria Hospital. Demelo has serious neck and hip injuries and his passengerssustained ,ernius hut non -lite threatening injuries. RIDE programs out in force EXETER - You can count on being stopped -somewhere in Huron County over the holiday season as part Ora .beefed up RIDE campaign by the OPP. Huron County OPP Const. John Marshall said several locations have been chosen throughout the county for RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spotchecks on•provincial highways. county and township.roads and municipal streets. Extra officers will he stationed in Exeter. Clinton and.Scaforth for the program which is funded by the province.
