• Dear Editor:
The soccer community in the Town of Exeter has
lost a dear friend with the death of Jeff Playfoot. An
avid fan ofthe sport; Jeff spent many years in the
minor soccer system. as a player; referee and coach.
as' well as playing for and coaching the Exeter Cen-
tennials and coaching the Exeter Fury, Jeff devoted
much of his spare time and energy to the kids that he.
cared about and he will be greatly missed by all that
knew him.
On a personal level. i coached with him and i al-
ways knew. that if the kids needed something, he'd he
there to offer assistance. He was always there to offer
assistance to tete as well. and that.is,what i'll miss the
most about him.

Education reform needed
"Education tax dollars, should fol-
low the Student:"
. Dear Editor: -
It is with mixed emotions that.' read -about Bill
160 and the claims that our teachers/educators make
about it. • .
Education reform is a must. Hopefully the govern-
ment and our educators will realistically consider
what needs to he done. When a power struggle is the
problem.•education will not he a consideration. One
begins to doubt whether either.ide is seeking to pro-.
vide quality education. Quality education does not. -
need to cost as much.as it does. My education dollar
goes toward public education but my support goes
toward alternate and independent schabls. •
' There are thousands of students in alternate -and
independent schools that are getting a quality educa-•
tion for half the amount that it costs in the public
schools. These parents are paying their tax dollars
which arc in turn conveniently used by the public
system. Not one of these tax. dollars goes with the
student. in fact in Huron County we pay tax dollars
toward busing for our children and yet the Huron
r
County Board of Education charges us fobusing
also. This is paying double for a service to which
these children are entitled. independent schools are
expected to match the educational standards set out
by the Ministry of Education and yet by the same
'token theyare not entitled to free health services that
the public and Catholic schools obtain. One example
of this type of service is speech therapy. .
I think that if teachers and government are"think-
.ing about quality education for our children perhaps
it is time that -both sides consider the following: 1.
Education tax dollars should follow the student: 2.
Parental involvement helps cut costs: 3. Speciality.
schools'in conjunction with industry will teach and
- train our students. • - - .. . .
Reform does peed -to take place. May we never be •
a society that does not continually 19Ok for ways to• .
improve and change:. Please let us remember to take '
-all our children -into consideration. - .

A tribute to Jeff
"We will never forget how much
he gave of himself to make this a
better world."
Dear Editor:
It was with great sadness.that we learned last
week of the untimely death of Jeff Playfoot.
Jeff touched our family in many positive ways.
He was part of the.coaching staff that coached my
son•Marty in minor hockey; and coached with my
son Henri, also in hockey. i personally -coached him
when he was a young boy in soccer. He later he -
came one of. my soccer coaches when I -was in
charge of the soccer program in Exeter. He was a very
dedicated and fun coach to be with`and many 'kids in •
this area will be better kids because of him.
I am sure that all of the people who knew Jeff feel a
great sense of loss. We will never forget how much he
gave of himself to make this a better world.
The Town of Exeter owes Jeff a great deal of grati-
tude for his involvement in such a positive manner,
especially on the sports scene. I know that my family
is proud to have known Jeff and will miss him. his
-smile and his positive attitude.
God bless Jeff. may you rest in peace'.
in loving memory,
Martin J. DeBruyn and family
