to be confident enough to speak
out clearly 'when others - seem to

Dem Bones
heard someone. say (rnc time .
that thc Horticultural Societyis
made up of different Fomes. Four
different -hones precisely:. • •
1) Thera arc the wishbones.
who spend their time wishing
someone else would do the work.
2) There arc the jaw bones,
who do all the talking hut very
little else.- .
3) There are the knuckle
bones, that knock everything that
everyone. else tries to do.
•4) There are the hackhones.-
who get under•thc load and do- -
the work. • - -
We all recognize these hones
when we sec them in others. The
real question is. "Po .we rec-
ognize. what particular hones we -
arc?".,
I
But you know .something fun-
ny? Just as our bodies would
look -quite ungainly if they were
made up of only cine or the other
of 'dem hones' so any group or
organization needs people with a
variety of styles and character-
istics. In -everyday life you need
person.- somal to exercise all of thoSSC. hones at :,
•one time or another, sometimes
even together, • or, else you'll he
in big trouble: - •
I guess ,the trick is to know 'de'
when to_ use which of 'nt' and
for what purpose.
Let's get beyond 'recognizing'
and exercise' true discernment for.
'which' bone is appropriate to he
or use • at any given time. Then
let's build up the necessary flex-
ibility to easily shift gears' (or
bones), so as to support one an-
other to get the job done.

Society members torn by decision
HENSALL Thirty-three Hensel!

members and guests enjoyed a-
potluck supper held at the
Fellowship Hall of Hensall United
Church. .
After dessert. John LaPorte of

Members Janis Bisback and
Jennifer Roth. • dressed as
sunflowers, presented...a lively skit
as they discussed ideas gleaned
from their gardener/researcher
Cheryl Bilcke. -
During the business part of the
meeting members.. adopted in
principle a varied program for 1998
with a. different twist, including
interactive, on-site. and hands - on
sessions. .1 - -
A difficult decision was deferred
to .the Annual General Meeting
scheduled for February 16, 1998.
Once again members were asked to
decide on a change of location
when an offer from- Queensway
Nursing Home for 'no charge'
meeting facilities was presented..
Members were clearly torn between
.letting their heads or their hearts
rule. Should they save the society
several hundred dollars, or
staunchly come down on the side of
loyalties.
The members must - consider all
the pros and cons carefully, then
come out and vote by secret ballot
on February 16. Those members
who cannot attend please watch
your mail for proxy sheets.
In the meantime the nominating
committee will be busy collecting
names of individuals willing to
help nurture and grow the society.
along with the beautiful planting
